Bruno Mars grooving his way towards Number 1 with Unorthodox Jukebox
Bruno Mars is grooving his way towards an Official Albums Chart Number 1 this Sunday with second album, Unorthodox Jukebox.
The follow-up to 2010’s chart-topping Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which was the third biggest selling album of last year, is outselling its closest competitor, Michael Buble’s Christmas by 22,000 copies at this point of the week.
Mars recorded the album with British producers Paul Epworth (Adele) and Mark Ronson, the latter of whom produced his current Police-esque Top 5 hit, Locked Out Of Heaven.
“I’ve been wanting to work with Mark for the longest time,” Bruno told Kiss FM recently. “All the producers on the album, these guys make the albums they wanna make. Look at Amy Winehouse; no one was doing that, [Mark] did it so good. He’s got such an expertise when it comes to live instrumentation. That’s what I really wanted to incorporate on this album, and you can really hear it on Locked Out Of Heaven. He’s just The G when it comes to that!”
Michael Buble’s Christmas album holds firm at Number 2, while Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events, which broke through the million copies sales barrier earlier this week to become the biggest selling album of 2012 so far, climbs four places to Number 3. The Top 5 is completed by Olly Murs' Right Place, Right Time (Number 4) and Rihanna’s Unapologetic (5).
New Entries
In addition to Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox (Number 1), there are two other new entries on today’s Official Albums Chart Update Top 40.
Tre, the third instalment of Green Day’s new trilogy of albums is new in at Number 14. The previous two albums in the series, Uno and Dos, peaked earlier this autumn at Number 2 and 10, respectively. The Gypsy Queens - an international collective of buskers who have entertained the likes of Elton John, Rod Stewart, David Beckham, and their Royal Highnesses Princes William and Harry - enter at Number 40 today with their eponymous debut album.
