Britney Spears' Official biggest singles and albums in the UK revealed
.In the immortal words of the icon herself - it's Britney, b*tch!
It's been a hot minute since we last heard from the Princess of Pop, Miss Britney Spears. Six years ago, Britney released her ninth (and, so far, latest) studio album Glory and - thanks to a combination of well-publicised personal and legal issues - took a rest from the spotlight.
Now emancipated and finally, finally free, Britney is ready to make her comeback, with none other than Elton John on the single Hold Me Closer, her first release of original music since 2016's Glory.
As a pop star, Britney Spears has taken more risks than people may want to give her credit for. As she grew up (quite literally), Britney's music started to become something of a fertile ground for the most weird and wonderful ideas pop producers and writers could find. It's why you can hear a taste of bhangra in Toxic, why Blackout kickstarted the EDM boom in its infancy and why you can't say the title of If U Seek Amy out loud on the street.
And let's never - ever! - discount Britney herself from her own legacy. There would be no Britney Spears without Britney Spears. It was Britney who, in her earliest days as a pop star, recognised the dichotomy at play in her image on the set of the Baby One More Time video, one of the oldest in existence; the virgin and the whore, innocence and sex, constraint and freedom. As Britney's image shifted, and her own music grew in complexity especially during the In The Zone and Blackout eras, her own autonomy was her greatest strength. And now she has it back. What will she do next? Whatever she wants.
We've compiled the lists and crunched the numbers to present the Official and up-to-date ranking of Britney's most successful singles and albums in the UK. Let's get stuck in.
MORE: Britney's Official Charts history in full
10. Piece Of Me
Album: Blackout
Released: 2007
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 2
Total UK chart units: 427,000
A masterclass in how take back control of your own narrative, Piece Of Me also contains uncredited background vocals from none other than Swedish pop princess Robyn.
9. Circus
Album: Circus
Released: 2008
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 13
Total UK chart units: 462,000
The energetic title track from Britney's sixth studio album is perhaps best remembered for its kitsch music video, where Brit genuinely seems to be having the time of her life. It was directed by Francis Lawrence, known for helming Lady Gaga's Bad Romance video and three of The Hunger Games films.
8. Everytime
Album: In The Zone
Released: 2004
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 562,000
A rare Britney Spears single written by Britney herself, Everytime is a tender piano ballad that many have taken as a response to the break-up with her then-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. Its iconic music video, helmed by David LaChappelle, forms as an eerily prescient reminder of the insidious media presence surrounding Britney at the height of her fame.
7. Sometimes
Album: ...Baby One More Time
Released: 1999
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 3
Total UK chart units: 584,000
Britney may not be the biggest fan of the perky Sometimes, but those looking for a modern-day re-interpretation should seek out queer pop trio MUNA's reverential cover released this year for the film Fire Island.

6. Gimme More
Album: Blackout
Released: 2007
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 3
Total UK chart units: 596,000
Blackout's lead single was an instant classic; a dark and glitzy electro-pop smash that has quietly influenced an entire generation of dance music, and helped usher in EDM supremacy. Also features one of the greatest opening lines, naturally.
5. Womanizer
Album: Circus
Released: 2008
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 3
Total UK chart units: 835,000
Lest we forget Britney's chaotic yet highly iconic performance of the juddering Womanizer in that year's X Factor, where she then had to stay on stage and very respectfully try to answer Dermot O'Leary's questions about the finalists despite clearly not having a clue as to who any of them were.
4. Oops! I Did It Again
Album: Oops! I Did It Again!
Released: 2000
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 931,000
When Max Martin looked at all the success of ...Baby One More Time and said, how about that...but more? Oops! is a brilliant pop single, and its timelessness is proved by the fact is contains a Titanic reference in its iconic middle eight, a film that was already three years old by the time it was released. Also: red catsuit.

3. Scream & Shout (with will.i.am)
Album: #willpower
Released: 2012
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 1.3 million
Britney's sixth and most recent UK Number 1 single, will.i.am collaboration Scream & Shout claims the title of her most-digitally downloaded track in the UK, with 880,000 of them.
2. Toxic
Album: In The Zone
Released: 2004
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 1.3 million
Just as sonically innovative and exciting today as it was in 2004, the clarity of vision on Toxic is crystal clear. A Number 1 hit in the UK (a feat it surprisingly never achieved in Brit's native US), Toxic has UK chart units totally 1.3 million and is also Britney's most-streamed track in the UK; with 96 million streams in total.
Spare a thought for Kylie Minogue, though, who had the opportunity to record Toxic and turned it down!
1. ...Baby One More Time
Album: ...Baby One More Time
Released: 1999
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 2 million
There are many, many ways you can explain the brilliance of ...Baby One More Time, but one of the greatest debut singles of all time sounds about right.
Proof that Britney knew herself and her career better than anyone else at the time, she rejected a cartoon-ish pitch for the music video, instead demanding it be set in a high school. The rest, as they say, is history.
...Baby One More Time is still Britney's biggest track in the UK, with a total of over 2 million chart units to its name. It's also her most physically purchased single (1.4 million units) and most-viewed music video (over 10 million video streams).
What makes it even more impressive? ...Baby One More Time - written entirely by a then up and coming Max Martin, still in his production infancy - was actually turned down by the Backstreet Boys and TLC. But Britney, recovering from a hangover on the day she recorded the career-defining track, took it in her stride. And one of the most successful pop partnerships in pop history was born.
You would have to travel a very long way to find a pop song more immaculately produced, performed and put together.

"why Blackout kickstarted the EDM boom"
What nonsense is this? This is the UK. We've known what electronic dance music is since the 70s. Our "EDM boom" was in the 90s and early 2000s. EDM is not a dance-pop/RnB album very much like Nelly Furtado's "Loose" from the year before. Danja, who produced about half of it, was Timbaland's protege.

Love these articles! Welcome back Britney! Hi George, would you mind to open the album sales? It is always very hard to have the updated info from a great and reliable source like you!
Mm
What is her sales total for just songs (singles, and deep cuts)?
Would love to see her complete total.

The UK general public have never really appreciated Britney. They’ve done her dirty on so many great tracks and albums. Looking forward to the new release and hoping it’s a success after everything she’s been through.

Welcome back Britney! I miss her so much and so looking forward to her come back single with Elton and hopefully a new album soon!!
Fix
I have to say. Her sales in the uk is mot really that impressive. Its probably above average. Shes big in europe but not really that big in the uk i guess.
Sunshine Gal
also, that's very interesting her 'oops' album sold 900k in the uk, over here that album sold the famous 1.3 mill. in just 1 week! she had the highest 1st week sales of any female artist *adele now holds that record* but britney had that feat a good 15 yrs!
Sunshine Gal
that's all very interesting, she has more uk top 10 hits than over here. and very interesting she doesn't have a #1 album in the uk. over here, her first four albums all debuted @ #1 *a-then record feat, now beyonce holds the all time for female artists a feat of 5 consecutive #1 albums*. and she's still the only american female artist with 2 back-to-back diamond albums: 1st album 'baby one more time'-14x plat *that's right, 14 mill. ;)* and 'oops i did it again'-10x plat.

Her last album sold 600.000 worldwide and it is a good number .Albums sales drop these days !!!!! All her albums sales can be found on media trafifc facebook page ....
I Am A Stegosaurus
You say top 20 but then show top 30...
Charles De Aquino
She dominated the charts with Aguilera long ago. Today music is not selling regardless who is the singer. She flopped with Britney Jean and with Flop Girls. I don't know how the music industry will survive with just some singers selling. Majority are not selling.

Kat Love
Well I think artist of today can't make huge impacts anymore. Maybe a new artist can. Do you have the accurate number of albums Britney has sold?
Charles De Aquino
Britney is always selling less than a year before. That is a fact!!! Since the Beyonce . Britney now appears to be a plain entertainer.
KL
Kat Love
Are you talking about her Vegas residency? Well but Britney is still the princess of pop though.
Fix
She might be selling less year in year out. But her first 3 albums alone cam cover all 6 albums recorded by Beyonce. So for u to make Beyonce like a legend and shes just a plain entertainer is just stupid.
Saint Perth
No one in this generation can SOLD millions of albums even TAYLOR... Beyonce is a entertainer too and if you combine all her album sells its just ONE for Britney😊
Johnny McVey
425,50 for Toxic? Do you mean 425,500?

KL
Kat Love
Do you have the accurate number of albums Britney has sold?
Fix
Ivica The majority of her fans are more interested with her first 4 albums. Which is why all her albums, singles, videos fared so much better than her recent hits and albums.
