Tim Bergling, AKA Avicii, has scored the fastest selling single of 2013 so far with Wake Me Up, entering the Official Singles Chart at Number 1!
Congratulations to 23-year-old Swedish DJ and producer Avicii - his latest track, Wake Me Up, has become the fastest selling single of 2013 so far, entering the Official Singles Chart at Number 1 today!
According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, Wake Me Up sold nearly 267,000 in its first week on sale, which beats the previous record set by Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines back in May of this year by some 76,000 copies. It is also the biggest single week sale since The Justice Collective’s cover of The Hollies’ He Ain’t Heavy claimed the 2012 Christmas Number 1 with sales of over 269,000 copies.
Avicii, AKA Tim Bergling, scored his first Number 1 single in the UK in February of this year with I Could Be The One with Dutch DJ Nicky Romero. He had previously enjoyed two other Top 5 hits in 2011 – Collide with Leona Lewis and Levels,which was later sampled by Flo Rida for his 2012 Number 1 hit, Good Feeling.
After its fifth non-consecutive week at Number 1, Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines FT TI and Pharrell Williams slides to Number 2, while John Newman’s Love Me Again (3), Icona Pop’s I Love It FT Charli XCX (4), and Will.I.Am’s Bang Bang (5) complete this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 5.
New Entries and High Climbers
Former Disney princess Selena Gomez scores her second Top 10 hit today with Come & Get It (8). The track is taken from her debut solo album, Stars Dance, which is out in the UK tomorrow (Monday, July 22). Breach, AKA Hertfordshire DJ Ben Westbeech, debuts one place behind Selena with his “sleazy” house anthem Jack (9).
Meanwhile, Avril Lavigne clocks up her 13th Top 40 single with Here’s To Never Growing Up, which is new in today at Number 14, while X Factor star Lucy Spraggan scores her second with Lighthouse (26). This week’s new entries are completed by Kings Of Leon‘s Supersoaker (32). Supersoaker is the first track to be culled from their upcoming sixth album, Mechanical Bull, and was released on Wednesday.
And finally, Calvin Harris’ Thinking About You FT Ayah Marar, climbs 21 places to make its Top 40 debut at Number 28 two weeks ahead of its August 4 release date.The track is the ninth single to be taken from Calvin’s chart-topping third album 18 Months.
