SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR

Sophie Ellis-Bextor was originally the lead singer for Nineties band theaudience, and notably the uncredited featured vocalist on Spiller's 2000 Number 1 single Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) before establishing her own solo career in 2001.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor made her Official Chart debut as a solo artist in August 2001 with debut single Take Me Home, a cover of Cher's disco hit. Take Me Home featured on Sophie's debut studio album Read My Lips which was released in late August 2001. Both Take Me Home and its follow-up single Murder On The Dancefloor peaked at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart, while their parent album Read My Lips entered the Official Albums Chart at Number 4 in September 2001, before peaking at Number 2 the following summer in June 2002.

Follow-up album Shoot From The Hip reached the Top 20 (Number 19), spawning two Top 10 singles Mixed Up World and I Won't Change You, while Sophie's third studio release in 2007 - Trip The Light Fantastic - gave the singer at second Top 10 album and another Top 10 hit on the Official Singles Chart with its lead single Catch You.

More UK Albums Chart appearances followed for Sophie courtesy of 2011's Make A Scene, 2014's Wanderlust In 2020, Familia in 2016 and 2019's The Song Diaries, but it was during the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK that the nation took Sophie Ellis-Bextor to their hearts as she performed live weekly "Kitchen Disco" concerts featuring herself and her family, streamed live from their kitchen on Instagram. In July of that year Sophie announced the greatest hits album Songs from the Kitchen Disco, preceded by the release of a single, Crying at the Discoteque, a cover version of the Alcazar song which she had performed during her lockdown concerts. Songs From The Kitchen Disco landed straight into the Top 10 in November 2020 at Number 8.

On 2 January 2024, Official Charts announced that Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Murder On The Dancefloor was heading back into the Official Singles Chart Top 40 for the first time 22 years, thanks to its feature in movie Saltburn which had begun streaming on Amazon Prime over Christmas 2023. The last time the song appeared in the Top 40 was March 2002.

Not sure why she is not as on MTV her name is there on the video and on the radio they ALWAYS say her name when they talk about the song.

When we went to see her in concert in 2019 she sang it as her encore too! It is technically her song. Groovejet by Spiller was an instrumental club track before the SEB vocal was layered onto it.
