RINGO STARR

Who is Ringo Starr?

Ringo Starr shot to fame as the drummer for The Beatles - the most successful British band of all time. Born Sir Richard Starkey on 7 July 1940 in Liverpool, England, the musician, songwriter and actor occasionally sang lead vocals with The Beatles, including on hits such as Yellow Submarine and With a Little Help from My Friends.

Ringo also wrote and sang the Beatles songs Don't Pass Me By and Octopus's Garden, and is credited as a co-writer of four others.

A skiffle fan prior to joining The Beatles, Starr co-founded his first band in 1957 called the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group. Ringo also achieved moderate success in another band Rory Storm And The Hurricanes, before being asked to replace Pete Best in The Beatles in their breakthrough year of 1962.

Ringo Starr released his debut solo album in 1970, peaking at Number 7 on the Official Albums Chart, one of two Top 10 solo albums. His highest-charting solo single was 1972's Back Off Boogaloo.
