METALLICA

Metallica are an American heavy rock band originating in Los Angeles in 1981, and mostly based in San Francisco.

Comprising members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo, Metallica's signature style of high-tempo aggressive rock puts them alongside Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer as one of the "big four" thrash metal bands of their time.

In the UK Metallica have scored four Number 1 albums across a career spanning more than four decades, their first UK Top 100 chart appearance came in August 1984 (87) with Ride The Lightning. Their seminal follow-up Master Of Puppets landed just outside the Top 40 of the Official Albums Chart in 1986, but it was their 1988 album And Justice For All that gave Metallica their UK breakthrough, their first Top 5 album, peaking at Number 4, the same album earned the band their first Grammy nomination.

Metallica's eponymous 1991 album Metallica became their first to reach Number 1 in the UK, they did it again a just a few years later, securing their second Number 1 with 1996's Load, plus further chart-toppers courtesy of 2008's Death Magnetic and 72 Seasons in 2023.

Metallica's most successful singles in the UK include Top 10 hits Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters and Until It Sleeps.
