LENNY KRAVITZ

Who is Lenny Kravitz?

Lenny Kravitz, born in New York on 26 May 1964, is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and actor.

He grew up listening to the music his parents listened to including R&B, jazz, gospel and blues, and then age 10 relocated to Los Angeles where he was introduced to the sound and lifestyle of rock 'n' roll - The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Kiss, Creedence Clearwater Revival.

First charting in the UK Top 100 in February 1990 with I Build This Garden For Us, Lenny Kravitz scored his debut UK Top 40 appearance on the Official Chart later that summer with Let Love Rule, the title track of his debut album.

Embarking on a career characterised by his signature blend of rock, funk, soul and R&B, his 1991 track It Ain't Over Til It's Over saw Lenny break into the UK Top 20, while less than two years later in 1993 Kravitz landed his first Top 5 hit thanks to the anthemic Jimi Hendrix-influenced riffs of Are You Gonna Go My Way. Its parent album of the same name topped the Official Albums Chart - his first UK Number 1 album.

Kravitz earned his first and only UK Number 1 single with the song Fly Away in 1999. He's also produced hit records for the likes of Madonna (Justify My Love) as well as co-writing and producing the self-titled 1991 album of French songstress Vanessa Paradis. Image: BRIT Awards 2025 / JM Enternational
