KATY PERRY

Katy Perry is one of the most popular and successful pop stars of her generation. Debuting in 2008 with the glam-rock strut of straight-curious banger I Kissed A Girl, Katy quickly cultivated an identity as a hitmaker who never skimped on the hooks, and whose image hinged on a cartoonish entendre, all nudges and winks to the audience.

In 2010, Katy released her magnum opus, Teenage Dream. Her second album was practically all killer and no filler; containing the UK Number 1 single California Gurls ft. Snoop Dogg, the anthemic Firework and the acclaimed title track, many critics choices for the best song of its respective decade.

Letting the light in on 2013's introspective Prism, Katy notched up another Number 1 with Roar, while 2017's club record Witness was an ambitious attempt at 'purposeful pop,' although that year did see Katy claim her fifth Number 1 single with Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams and Big Sean on Feels.

2020 lockdown record Smile may not have returned Katy to the top of the pop game, but after some time out she seems primed to make a full-scale mainstream comeback with brand-new single Woman's World, out July 11, and a sixth studio album set for release later this year.

This chart has been very unfair to the very talented Katy Perry. Her superb hits like This is How we Do & Wide awake could only peak at 33 & 9.
More disturbing is that the best hip hop song of all time, Dark Horse could only peak at 4.

Shut up....Katy Perry sold her soul. You think Kanye nuked his career just to tell us Beyonce had the best music video of that year?

Katy Perry...is just a political puppet. Like Eminem, who's music I like.

Her music is in my opinion, but her target market isn't mid-20s guys, it's insecure preteen girls.

2016 came and went, now she's just a thought who's trying desperately hard to be relevant.
