JOHNNY MATHIS

Johnny Mathis claimed his first and only UK Number 1 single with tender festive ballad When A Child Is Born, which became the UK Official Christmas Number 1 of 1976.

The Texas-born jazz and standards singer, born 30 September 1935, made his debut UK Top 40 entry two decades earlier with the song Teacher Teacher, before scoring a Top 5 hit with its follow-up A Certain Smile. Image: Johnny Mathis / press Sony Music CG

Are you sure you were looking at the right bit, shaun? The stats at the top show one Number One single, two Number One albums. (The layout of the site has changed in the last few weeks, admittedly, but before that the singles stats showed by default and you had to click to toggle to the albums ones.)
