OASIS

Who are Oasis?

Oasis emerged from Manchester in the 1990s and came to typify a new generation of ambitious British bands, spearheading the Britpop movement.

Centred around brothers Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher, Oasis landed their first UK Top 40 single with Supersonic in April 1994, four months Live Forever delivered the band their first Top 10 hit - the first of a staggering 22 consecutive Top 10 singles for Oasis.

Oasis's first Number 1 single came courtesy of Some Might Say, toppling Take That's Back For Good to take pole position on the Official Singles Chart for one week between 30 April to 6 May 1995. Oasis scored a total of eight UK Number 1 singles in ten years, their most recent being 2005's The Importance Of Being Idle.

They went on to become one of the most successful bands in history, amassing eight Number 1 albums. Oasis's second album What's The Story Morning Glory is the fifth best-selling album of all time in the UK while follow-up project Be Here Now claims the fastest-selling album of all time after selling 696,000 copies in just three days in its first chart week.

In August 2024 Oasis announced a reunion tour for summer 2025, and Official Charts revealed Wonderwall tops the list of Oasis's most-streamed songs of all time. With a record-breaking scrum for reunion tickets and a 30th anniversary re-release of their debut album, Oasis crashed back to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart for the first time in 14 years with Definitely Maybe. Check out where all of Oasis's hit songs and albums charted below.

Based on what kids listen to these days there will never be any band as good as oasis. Chart music is dire, 80s and 90s what an era for British music

As a 16 year old I'm proud to say Oasis are one of, if not my favourite band, and my most-listened overall by far. But yes, overall the music that those my age, younger (and older!) listen to is complete garbage, and the majority of the music currently in the UK charts is complete shizzle. #takebackthecharts

The last great rock 'n' roll band, 10 years since they split and things haven't been the same since. Whether another british rock band will have that same level of success as Oasis seems unlikely, it certainly hasn't happened this decade.

oh dear oh dear...the 1984 OASIS comprised of Mary Hopkin and Peter Skellern amongst others but certainly not the Gallagher brothers who would've been 12 and 17 at the time !
