PAPERBACK WRITER
by BEATLES
Composed thanks to Paul McCartney's Aunt Lil, who challenged him to write a song that wasn't about love, Paperback Writer - a standalone single - was one of the first song's written during the sessions for the incendiary Revolver record.
With its recognisable heavy bassline, Paperback Writer was recorded in April 1966. Producer George Martin said "Paperback Writer had a heavier sound than some earlier work – and very good vocal work, too. I think that was just the way it worked out, that the rhythm was the most important part of their make-up by this time."
In June 1966 Paperback Writer overthrew Frank Sinatra's Strangers In The Night to become The Beatles' tenth UK Number 1 single. It was the last new song to feature on the setlist for The Beatles' last tour as a group in 1966.
