HELLO GOODBYE
by BEATLES
Hello, Goodbye was The Beatles’ 18th chart entry and their 13th Number 1, and second chart-topper of the year following All You Need Is Love. It was the group’s first single since the death of their manager Brian Epstein, and was released November 24, 1967 entering the chart at Number 9 and rising to the top spot a week later to spend seven weeks in pole position – the longest they’d been in that position since She Loves You in 1963 – until January 1968 giving them their fourth non-consecutive UK Official Singles Chart Christmas Number 1 as they’d not bothered trying the year before.
Written by Paul McCartney and credited to the classic Lennon/ McCartney partnership, the song was backed by John’s I Am The Walrus and saw them also occupy the runner-up position with their Magical Mystery Tour EP. They also claimed yet another chart double with Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band atop the UK Official Album Chart that Christmas.
