GOODBYE
by SPICE GIRLS

The eighth UK Official Singles Chart Number 1 for the Spice Girls, Goodbye was the first since Geri Halliwell left the band in May 1998. Co-written by the girls with producers Matt Rowe and Richard Stannard, Goodbye was seen as very much a song about Geri’s departure and, to some extent, the end of band themselves.

However the song had been originally written while Geri was still an active member, but was reworked following her departure, with Rowe and Stannard flying out to Tennessee to work with the remaining members while they were on tour. Goodbye was released on December 14, 1998 and entered the chart at the top a week later in time for it to be that year’s UK Official Singles Chart Christmas Number 1, staying at the summit for just one week.
