THE FEAR
by LILY ALLEN
Lily Allen held a cracked mirror up to fame on her second UK Number 1 single, The Fear.
The first single from Lily's accomplished second album It's Not Me, It's You, The Fame finds it feet in a fevered satire of 2009 culture, imagining British society as a place where everyone is out for whatever they can get, no matter the consequences.
"Life is about film star, and less about mothers," she says in one of the song's most hilarious lines. "It's all about fast cars and cussing each other."
Written by Lily and the song's producer, Greg Kurstin, it's still a timely reminder that she remains one of our greatest chroniclers of social commentary.
