Scottish-born singer Leon Jackson was the winner of the fourth series of The X Factor, seeing off Welsh showman Rhydian Roberts, in 2007. His debut single, a cover of Stephen Schwartz’s song When You Believe, had been originally recorded as a duet by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey in 1998 for the Disney film The Prince Of Egypt, reaching Number 4.
It was released as a download on December 16, 2007 after his victory on the show, and following the pattern of previous X Factor winner’s releases, was available as a CD single a few days later. When You Believe entered the chart at the top with 275,000 sales to become the UK Official Christmas Number 1 2007, remaining in the position for three weeks. It was also the fourth biggest-selling single of 2007.
