DISEASE
by LADY GAGA
Let Lady Gaga play the doctor on Disease, the frantic and bold lead single from her seventh studio album.
Released on October 25 2024 via Interscope, Disease was co-written by Gaga and the song's producers, Cirkut (Katy Perry) and watt (Miley Cyrus) as well as her own fiance, Michael Polansky.
"I could play the doctor, I could cure your disease," Gaga howls on the chorus, made up of cascading industrial-rock synths which recall the work of Nine Inch Nails as much as it does, say, The Fame Monster. "If you were a sinner I could make you believe."
After Gaga's return to old-school 70s schmaltz on the Bruno Mars duet Die With A Smile, Disease feels refreshingly back to basics for the pop superstar; recalling the theatrical heights and gothic edge of her early work on tracks like Bad Romance and Teeth, while also seemlessly fitting into the transition of the modern pop market, where more is suddenly more again.
As an artist who is an obvious touchstone to many of 2024's most visible pop success stories - Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter - Disease is a muscular flex from Gaga to prove that, actually, no-one can go more weird than Mother Monster when the mood takes her.
