HE AIN'T HEAVY HE'S MY BROTHER
by JUSTICE COLLECTIVE

The Justice Collective was put together by Peter Hooton of The Farm in order to raise funds for charities supporting the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, where 96 Liverpool FC supporters lost their lives. The collective included previous chart-toppers such as Paul McCartney, Gerry – and the Pacemakers - Marsden, Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Holly Johnson, Spice Girl Melanie C, Robbie Williams, Paul Housemartins/ Beautiful South Heaton and a couple of The Hollies as well as Beverley Knight, Shane MacGowan, Paloma Faith, Mick Jones from The Clash, Glen Campbell and the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra plus several former Liverpool and Everton footballers.

Originally written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother had been a hit for The Hollies in 1969, and a belated UK Official Singles Chart Number 1 for them in 1988. The Justice Collective's re-recording was produced by Guy Chambers and Richard Flack, and released on December 17, 2012. It earned 270,000 sales in its first week, beating The X Factor winner James Arthur, to become the UK's Official Christmas Number 1 2012.
