The Flying Pickets is a British a cappella vocal group who first formed in 1982 by actor Brian Hibbard who assembled co-actors from the fringe 7:84 theatre group - Rick Lloyd, Gareth Williams, David Brett, Ken Gregson (real name Kenneth Gregory) and Red Stripe (real name David Gittins) – to perform together and bring acapella to the masses.

The group’s first single was a cover of the 1982 Number 2 hit Only You by Yazoo, originally written by Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet, and released in December 1983 first charting at Number 60 before vaulting to 9 and then Number 1 for a five-week stay, making it 1983’s UK Official Singles Chart Christmas Number 1 as well as the first acapella Number 1 in UK Singles Chart history.
