HOT RIGHT NOW
by DJ FRESH FT RITA ORA
Believe it or not, the UK's first drum & bass Number 1 didn't arrive until as late as February 2012, and it came courtesy of dance producer DJ Fresh and a young debut artist who went by the name of Rita Ora - the song was Hot Right Now.
While Hot Right Now provided the vehicle for Rita's first-ever appearance on the Official Chart, DJ Fresh was already in the midst of making significant chart waves having only delivered another genre-defining smash with Louder the previous July. Louder ft Sian Evans had helped put dubstep on the mainstream map when it became the first dubstep track to reach Number 1 the Official Singles Chart.
Reacting to the news of Hot Right Now's historic feat, Daniel Stein AKA DJ Fresh told Official Charts “This is the first drum & bass Number 1, and for me particularly that’s a massive, massive feeling of achievement, because for so many of us, people like Goldie, Grooverider, Andy C, we’ve all been pushing for so long to get the music taken seriously and to be seen as a platform that anything can be done on. I really want to thank everyone in drum & bass and all the drum & bass fans for supporting the music and sticking with it.”
