GET LUCKY

Get Lucky is a three-way collaboration written by dance pioneers Daft Punk and features the talents of Pharrell Williams and the guitar riffs of Chic's master of funk Nile Rodgers.

Recorded at New York's Electric Lady Studios and released via Columbia Records as the lead single from Daft Punk's fourth album Random Access Memories on 19 April 2013, the now-dance floor classic gave Daft Punk their first ever UK Number 1 single. It stayed at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart for four consecutive weeks.

Get Lucky was warmly embraced by the British public upon its release, so much so it finished the year as the second best-selling single of 2013 behind Blurred Lines. 

The song's explosive release saw Get Lucky smash through the 100,000 sales barrier three weeks running to secure the UK top spot, and then on 27 June 2013, Official Charts announced that Get Lucky was already one of the best-selling singles of all time crossing the rare 1 million sales mark on its 69th day on sale.

Despite a lifetime of hits under his belt, Get Lucky was in fact Nile Rodgers' first-ever UK million seller. On crossing the threshold, Rodgers told Official Charts: “The fact that Get Lucky has sold a million copies in the UK is one thing, but to do it in 69 days?! I’m awestruck. When I think how it happened, too, with people who I like a lot, that we just decided to go into the studio and do something…and then it turns out like this? It’s absolutely remarkable, because no-one was prepared for this!"

“I’ve had big records and Number 1s; I have had records that were Number 1 in the United States but nowhere else… I’ve had records which have done well [in the UK], but not in the States. But to have this ubiquitous record, that is a hit everywhere… It’s amazing to me! I’m out on the road and I can hear it wherever I go. I’m flabbergasted!”

While Get Lucky was a first-time million seller for Rodgers, it was just one of three million-selling single releases for Pharrell in 2013! In an immaculate run of form, Pharrell became the first artist to score three million sellers in a year with Get Lucky, Happy and Blurred Lines.

Not only was Get Lucky a best seller, it is one of the earliest example of a huge streaming hit, earning its place in Official Chart history books by becoming the first song ever to generate 1 million UK streams in a week, according to Official Charts Company data.

The song has stood the test of time for the robots too, Get Lucky is Daft Punk's biggest song of their career in the UK.
