I LOVE YOU
by CLIFF RICHARD

First released on November 25, 1960, I Love You saw UK singer and actor Cliff Richard achieve his fourth chart-topper after Living Doll (1959), Travellin’ Light (1959) and Please Don’t Tease (1960), and his second as a co-billing with The Shadows (including core mainstay members guitarists Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch), although for the first two they were billed as The Drifters until they realised there was already a Drifters and were then served with legal papers.

Rather spookily, the original Drifters were at Number 5 in the Christmas Top Ten with Save The Last Dance For Me. I Love You was written by Welch, and by 1960 The Shadows were having hits in their own right, having scored an UK Official Singles Chart Number 1 earlier in 1960 with their Cliff-free debut single Apache. I Love You spent 16 weeks on the chart, achieving the UK Official Singles Chart Christmas Number 1 during Christmas week and staying there for a fortnight.
