ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART
by CILLA BLACK
Anyone Who Had A Heart was Cilla Black's first Number 1 single, topping the UK Singles Chart in February 1964, it went on to become the best-selling single of the 1960s by a female solo artist.
The Burt Bacharach-penned Anyone Who Had A Heart, with lyrics by Hal David, was originally written for and recorded by Dionne Warwick whose version peaked at Number 42 in the UK. Cilla's recording, produced by Beatles producer George Martin at Abbey Road Studios, went all the way to the top, giving Liverpudlian icon Cilla her breakthrough moment in the UK charts.
The song was the first of two consecutive UK Number 1 hits for Cilla; its follow-up You're My World climbed to the top of the Official Singles Chart in May 1964.
Anyone Who Had A Heart returned to the Official Chart decades later in 2014 as a result of 2014 ITV drama Cilla, based on the singer's life starring Sheridan Smith. It flew back into the charts reaching Number 47, while Sheridan's cover of Anyone Who Had A Heart from the TV series also made it into the Official Chart Top 100 at Number 80, giving the critically-acclaimed actress her own chart debut.
Following the sad passing of Cilla Black in August 2015, Anyone Who Had A Heart returned to the chart a further time at Number 41.
