THUNDERSTRUCK
by AC/DC

Thunderstruck is the lead single from AC/DC's 1990 album The Razor's Edge and is widely considered b y fans and critics to be one of the Australian band's best songs.

Upon its original UK release, Thunderstruck entered the Official Singles Chart Top 20 at Number 16, peaking a week later at Number 13. It spent five weeks in the UK's Official Chart Top 100 in 1990.

AC/DC's accompanying Top 5 album, The Razor's Edge, placed at Number 4 on the Official Albums Chart in September of that year.

The Thunderstruck video was filmed at London's Brixton Academy on 17 August 1990 and directed by David Mallet. The audience members were given free T-shirts with the words "AC/DC – I was Thunderstruck" on the front and the date on the back, and these T-shirts were worn by the entire audience throughout the filming of the video.

In November 2023, Official Charts announced Thunderstruck as a Christmas Number 1 contender thanks to a fan campaign keen to see the Aussie rockers top the chart 50 years after the band's formation. Members of AC/DC Facebook fan page AC/DC We Salute You selected Thunderstruck as their campaign song of choice following a similar campaign ten years earlier in 2013 which saw fans successfully take AC/DC's 1979 track Highway to Hell to Number 4 on the Official Christmas Singles Chart, earning the song a brand-new UK chart peak.

It remains to be seen whether the latest Thunderstruck fan campaign will be a success. The 2023 Christmas Number 1 race kicks off 15 December 2023 and runs through until 23.59pm 21 December. The Christmas Top 40 will be counted down on BBC Radio 1's The Official Chart from 4pm, 22 December, with the Official Singles Chart Top 100 published in full on OfficialCharts.com.
