They should re-named the Eurovision Song Contest to Eurovision outrageousness.

Our UK entry my parent's said was embarrassing, and turned over. I have to admit even I found it shocking!!

avatar

2

Why is Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac still in the charts?  It's been there for years, what's keeping it there?

C

are you nuts? it's one of the best songs ever made, that's why. Tiktok helps too

P

For me, Eurovision is the highlight of any year and I love obsessing over every detail about it, ranking the songs, voting for my favourites, and getting caught up in the drama of it all, so it was really hard to boycott it this year. Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but I would like to think that me and all the others who made this decision are at least partly responsible for the comparatively weak showing for Eurovision songs on the chart this year. That's something I never thought I'd be rooting for... I desperately hope the pressure continues to mount on bodies like the EBU to exclude Israel and maybe next year I and others will be able to enjoy the contest again. Besides, it would open the door for Arab countries who are active EBU members to compete, but have never done so in the past as a result of Israeli participation. That would certainly be interesting to see!

This is very naive and I have to disagree. Just Google the name Toomaj Salehi and then also do some research into how female artists, LGBTQ+ artists , are treated in the Middle East before condemning Israel.

A

Hi Pressy, I too am Eurovision obsessed  it was a great enjoyable spectacle , I cannot remember liking so many songs, you and the other boycotters & protesters  are the losers! what a waste of a Saturday night,  what did you gain? - ZERO !  Israel were 5th which says a great deal, Eden Golan is 20, what harm has she done?

As for your remarks on the UK charts, your memory is very very  short! , Last year 10 entries (I think) entered the charts and that was because the contest was on home ground in  Liverpool,  go back to 2022 / 2021 and earlier and its 2 or 3 - in fact 5 is good! The Dutch song wasn't even in the final !

Have you also forgotten who actually started the war? I totally agree with grayamyam - at the end of the day it's a fun song contest, may I suggest you watch it back and enjoy it for the spectacle it was. "See you in Switzerland" .

avatar

quolizzy

But Eurovision isn't about the song anymore, it seems to be how outrageous you can be!!

avatar

faiyaz

1

the 'great deal' israel coming 5th says being that many people are absolutely braindead zionists, matter of fact maybe they're the losers not the ones advocating for peace by boycotting something that endorses mass genocide ! when it starts representing that then it stops being a 'fun song contest' to some. i suggest you stop chatting in comment sections and brush up on your knowledge or check on your morals

C

crayon

3

oh my. Who started the war? Israel did many years ago. But its more complicaed than that. It's not a war. Hamas is evil yes. Palestine is not a recogonised state. Go back to 1917. Go back to 1948. Listen to what the UN says. To what doctors say. To what the charity groups say. Listen to holocaust survivers and families critizing the israeli military action. It ain't black and white, but yeah, dones't have much to do with pop music or eurovision fun I agree.

avatar

itsnoodleszn_

2

i never cared for eurovision. i absolutely get the appeal and like the fact it brings communities together, it’s just not for me. but i definitely had to boycott it after they told bambie thug to remove the pro-palestinian messages. it’s sheer hypocrisy considering they removed russia from the contest when they began invading ukraine.

oh, and if i see one more “oh but noodle you’re trans! you’d get killed in palestine!” i will lose my . this is not chickens for kfc. this is me being against genocide no matter how awful your government may be.

but yeah, i’m so sorry you and other esc fans who stand with palestine had it ruined 😭 hope the ebu sees the backlash by next year and you can enjoy it again <3

those attempting to justify the greatest crime of our age will be judged very harshly by history. the tide is already turning, support for Israel is evaporating and the West's claim to moral authority faltering. the unimaginable human suffering we are seeing wrought upon Gaza, in a meticulously coordinated effort to inflict collective punishment on the Palestinian people, speaks for itself. to the cheerleaders and apologists I simply have nothing else to say

Don't wanna do a review this week. Mainly because of important business going on involving the fact that college exams are biting at my heels, but also because if I say anything about Eurovision I'll get bodied just because I don't have an opinion on Israel. Anyways, here's my personal rankings:

AMAZIN DAT TIER:

Chappell Roan - Good Luck, Babe [20] (NEW NO.1 LADS. SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS.)

Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten [29]

Shaboozey - A Bar Song (Tipsy) [4]

GREAT, UNLIKE A LOOT CRATE TIER:

Beyoncé - TEXAS HOLD 'EM [38]

Baby Lasagna (Eurovision 🇭🇷) - Rim Tim Tagi Dim [36] (This should've won Eurovision. No question about it. Either them or Ireland.)

Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone - Fortnight [8]

Bakar - 'Ell N Back [31]

Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso [1]

I AM QUITE THE FAN OF THESE TIER:

Lay Bankz - Tell Ur Girlfriend [27]

Joost (Eurovision 🇳🇱) - Europapa [37] (Turns out we did get Joostice for Joost after all. 😎)

The Blessed Madonna/Clementine Douglas - Happier [21]

SZA - Saturn [32]

Future/Metro Boomin/Kendrick Lamar - Like That [25]

Nemo (Eurovision 🇨🇭) - The Code [18] (Not sure if they'll have Celine Dion-type success, but I'm sure they can manage. 🏳️‍⚧️ There's no emoji for the actual flag they held though. Apple might wanna change that.)

I............ LIKE THESE???? TIER:

Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us [6]

Taylor Swift - I Can Do It With a Broken Heart [13]

Noah Kahan - Stick Season [19]

Dua Lipa - Illusion [24]

Taylor Swift - Down Bad [15]

THIS IS BANG AVERAGE MAN TIER:

Kendrick Lamar - euphoria [22]

Artemas - i like the way you kiss me [9]

Hozier - Too Sweet [5]

Harry Styles - As It Was [33] (Admit it, who else muted their TV when this came on?)

Tommy Richman - MILLION DOLLAR BABY [3]

Mark Ronson ft. Amy Winehouse - Valerie [39]

I AIN'T A FAN OF THESE HITS TIER:

Post Malone/Morgan Wallen - I Had Some Help [2] (Ban the latter from radio now, cowards.)

Dasha - Austin [10]

Mark Ambor - Belong Together [11]

Rudimental/Skepsis/Running Out of Puns ASAP - Green & Gold [30]

Benson Boone - Slow It Down [16] (I don't get why all the singer-songwriters look like James Blunt nowadays...)

Myles Smith - Stargazing [12]

WOW THIS JUNK STINKS TIER:

Drake - Family Matters [34]

NewEra - Birds In The Sky [26]

David Guetta & OneRepublic - I Don't Wanna Wait [23]

Benson Boone - Beautiful Things [7]

Bryson Tiller - Whatever She Wants [35]

SO HORRIBLE IT DEFIES DESCRIPTION TIER:

Michael Marcagi - Scared To Start [14]

Badger - These Words [28]

Teddy Swims - Lose Control [17] (The fact he's on ACR now means he's FINALLY 39th in my rankings.)

Good Neighbours - Home [40] (Their current position couldn't be any more literal.)

And here's what I think about the other entries and movements in the Top 100:

Charli XCX - 360 [41] Yep, she's straight up cursed at this point.

Perrie - Forget About Us [42] The fall-out starts now. Buckle up.

Olly Alexander (Eurovision 🇬🇧) - Dizzy [48] LOL.🤭 The chart equivalent of nul points.

Macklemore - HIND'S HALL 🇵🇸 [51] If I say that Palestine should be freed can you not beat me up in the street for expressing my opinion? PLEASE?!?

Gunna - one of wun [55], on one tonight [64], hakuna matata [96] So that's what happens when a popular rapper releases an album. Never would have guessed...

Bambie Thug (Eurovision 🇮🇪) - Doomsday Blue [67] Yeah it's great, but it would've been funnier if it won and angered my mum to no end.

beabadoobee - Take a Bite [68] Ah well, at least you tried.

Kane Brown & Marshmello - Miles On It [70] Generic dance. NEXT.

RM - Come Back To Me [80] Generic K-POP. NEXT!!

Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy [81] ...wait what? How has THAT happened!? DOES ANYONE KNOW?? 'CAUSE I DON'T!!!

Stray Kids/Charlie Puth - Lose My Breath [97] Generic- wait no I already said that.

Clavish ft. D-Block Europe - Most Definitely [99] Remember when they collaborated on a Top 10 hit from 2022? Me neither...

alyona alyona/Jerry Heil (Eurovision 🇺🇦) Teresa & Maria [100] And this ballad is fine, but totally unmemorable. I've got no idea how this finished 3rd.

Right. I'm off. I've not got time for the replies. See you next week for an actual review.

i do not get why you have home in abysmal each week😭😭 it's not my favourite but i actually quite enjoy when they play it on radio 1 i just can't wrap my head around what's so offensive to you hahaha

avatar

Piran

2

Nothing's really "offensive" about it. It's just a complete mess. The vocalists can't sing to save their lives, the instrumentation is sloppy, there's no punch or swell behind the hook, the lyrics are rather basic, and I get a headache everytime it comes on the radio.

I know I have 'These Words', 'Slow It Down' and 'Birds In The Sky' in the Awful Tier, but even though I really don't like them, I can hear the appeal to certain audiences. I genuinely cannot find any quality in 'Home', although that's just my opinion.

yup piran you hit the nail on the head there, and this band came from completely nowhere too. either it’s suspicious or maybes i’m missing something. but yeah the song is hot garbage. its as shallow as a kiddie pool, and the singers have the second worst voice of a hit song in 2024 behind bento box or whatever his name is. i hope we get rid of this fast

Honestly, given all the controversies that happened with the EBU this year, I’m nowhere near as excited for the Eurovision debuts as I’d normally be. :/

Congratulations to Switzerland on their victory nonetheless! ‘The Code’ is definitely a grower and I really like how it has several genres mixed into it. Nemo also became first ever non-binary winner of the contest which is a big moment for the LGBTQ+ community! 🏳️‍⚧️

Commiserations to Olly for getting nothing on the televote but I guess 18th out of 25 overall isn’t too bad for the UK, at least compared to recent years! Delighted that ‘Europapa’ went Top 40 because that song is so much fun and it sounds like Joost was disqualified very unfairly.

I'll keep saying it, but we need a selection contest like Melodiefestivalen in Sweden to really get the public involved in the song selection each year. Maybe then we'd have less songs that sound like generic radio fodder!
