Excatly, who moans about The Beatles getting to No1 in the chars, they've also reached No1 in Germany too! Most people online and musical experts have praised the song.

2023- What a time to be alive The Beatles at the top of UK charts, German charts and No4 in Ireland and The Rolling Stones having a No1 album and Top 40 single recently. As a child of the 1990's I know the influence that they had on Brit-Pop without The Beatles they would of been no Oasis, Blur or Pulp and subsequently no Coldplay or Arctic Monkeys.  'Now and Then' is a decent track is not their best but well done and better than much of music in charts these days like some of the grime and dance music with squeaky over computerised vocals. Some of best modern music is not in the charts.

Telling me to stop downvoting him and then threatening me. What the was that kid thinking, he needs to go to a mental hospital and locked in a padded cell. The coward is now too scared to come on here. He is homophobic. I USED TO BE FRIENDS WITH THE OTHER COMMENTERS UNTIL YOU CAME ALONG YOU

Oh yes ''What a time to be alive'' with one of the worst songs they ever wrote to get number one. Paul McCartney must be feeling smug, thinking the ''Youth of today'' still idolizes him. The song is terrible though - even the band didn't like it - but because of hype and a fantastic PR company to do all the work and get a rubbish song to the top. Hopefully, it'll be long gone by next week.

Worst song they ever wrote? Yet critics don't agree with you! It's Paul, John, George and Ringo not just Paul so why would he feel smug! The Beatles are also No1 in Germany and No4 in Ireland. Which music do you like because the chances are The Beatles influenced it.

'Now and Then' is a decent track is not their best but well done and better than much of music in charts these days like some of the grime and dance music with squeaky over computerised vocals. Some of best modern music is not in the charts.

P.S: Just to 'upset' you it will No1 next week as well and they'll have a No1 album too!

Ok, why is Tears for fears, and Fleetwood Mac still in the charts, like since last year? What is making these songs so popular?

avatar

quolizzy

Ok lots of things wrong with the charts these days, last week we had Halloween songs in the charts after the event has passed. Now we have Christmas related songs when we are not half way through November yet. Are people really wishing their lives away. Oh and before I sign off, The Beatles must be the most overrated band of all time, then and now!!

avatar

itsnoodleszn_

2

whether you personally like the beatles or not you gotta appreciate how much they shaped popular music to what it is today, nearly every artist has been inspired by the beatles and there was no one else doing it like them back in the 60s

Who's stupid idea was it to have videos auto playing on almost every page! Not only that but if you scroll down it pops out and continues to play! If I want to watch a video I'll play it myself.

Ahh does my heart good to see The Beatles at # 1 and I can now boast during my life time  I have seen the Beatles chart the top spot not only on the Albums chart but now also on the Singles chart. Well done and congratulations to the Fab 4. We love you yeah yeah yeah:)

avatar

quolizzy

-1

Are you having a laugh? The Beatles are the most overrated band of all time. Its just basic pop songs. And the worst musicians ever!

avatar

annann

0

quolizzy: They are important enough for you to go out of your way to make a comment. Beatles live in many many peoples head who are not even fans. That's not overrated.

avatar

james

2

What music do you like? Because it was most certainly influenced by The Beatles. Think they only produced 'basic pop songs' try listening to the track 'A Day In The Life' with is like two songs in one, very experimental and way ahead of it's time. There early tracks were simply as you might say pop songs, but later they developed their sound into psychedelic, orchestral and hard rock styles, take Sgt. Peppers album or Revolver described as masterpieces by many critics, their sound evolved over time. All that in less than 10 years and then they all went on to have successful solo carers with hit albums and singles.

Finally the great new artist TEDDY SWIMS is having his first Top 100!!

How come the beautiful TAKE ON ME is back in the chart?

Not complaining as i always loved A-HA!!

probably for the same reason riptide, heartbeat, the night we met, someone like you etc are hanging out in the deep end of the top 100

Probably because the masses have realized there is no substance in new material.

Surprised not to see JAZZY's amazing new single: NRJ not making the Top 100 this wee, again, when it already made the Top 20 in Ireland!! Weird...

Christmas is coming earlier this year!!

Love seeing MARIAH and WHAM already making the Top 40!!

Like the XMAS spirit: good food, great music, nice movies, superb decorations etc...

although i’m trying to cut down on the christmas music this year, i absolutely ADORE the aesthetic for christmas. seeing people’s houses lit up brings so much comfort to me (even if the light bills will be crazy in january!), and the food… oh god, the food!!

avatar

THIERRY

Indeed...

You got to love the Xmas spirit...when being around nice people makes you feel so good... and i don't mean family!! But friends, neighbors, work colleagues etc...

and just an excuse to eat more!!

Am shocked not to see LOREEN's brand new single in the Top 100!!

After the massive success of TATTOO, really thought she will get easily her new single inside the Top 40!!

Over the moon to see ZACH BRYAN making the Top 20 this week!! Well deserved!!

Shame Europe isn't big in country music like the US!!

Congrats to my new favorite artist: LAINEY WILSON getting all the best nods in the Country award celebration this week!! She has been working so hard for the last 12 years so i am glad she finally gets some success!!

avatar

THIERRY

STRANGERS already on ACR??!! How come? The single just reached the number 1 spot a few weeks ago and only has been in the chart for 10 weeks!!

avatar

So nice to see NOAH finally getting the success he deserves!!

STICK SEASON getting a new peak!: loving it!! Mainly thanks to OLIVIA RODRIGO but still..so happy for him!!

avatar

THIERRY

If NOW AND THEN would have been released just a week later, PRADA would have been number 1 this week..before reaching ACR next week!!

Shame really as RAYE really deserved her 2nd number 1 single!!

SO Happy for The Beatles getting their 18th Number One & 70 weeks now at the top (Get Back was Top for 6 weeks not 2) jumping 41 places to reach the summit beating Hey Jude's 20 place leap back in 1968 - Here's hoping the reissues of the Red & the Blue albums are 1 & 2 next Friday and Now and Then holds out to be Top at Christmas stopping that Ladbaby nonsense doing it again (yawn). So Far So Good.

2

very well done to the beatles for that number 1! it was kind of inevitable with physical sales being a big factor for its number 1 spot, but it’s beautiful to see and a great send off to a band who made pop and rock music what it is today.

and i love the night we met being the new indie pop tune to get a sweater weather-style chart run! it’s a grower but when it grows on you, it hits as a song.

that just how you like it is chav music at its worst, we seriously deserve better than this . furthermore we let go of first person shooter - the best rap song of the year - for this?! and please get rid of baddadan while you’re at it, that’s the musical equivalent of a saw trap.

finally, i’m a bit disappointed the new green day songs are nowhere to be found. i love them and really want to see them live. the new songs are much better than anything from father of all too - i said what i said

take care yall~

Why is 'The Night We Met' only now reaching a new peak when it was released in 2015?

Not complaining about it, but just curious.

I don't get why 'WON'T FORGET YOU' is a new entry at No.28 when it was literally at No.82 last week.

And #95 the week before, so it's been in the charts for 3 weeks now, not 1!

Despite the same catalogue number, it appears that this week, this is the "Donk Edit", and now additonally features The Blackout Crew. (Jax Jones x D.O.D x The Blackout Crew x Ina Wroldsen). So I guess they regard it as a new entry.

Happy to see Now and Then at #1! I got nostalgic when I first watched its official music video on YouTube. Also, I'll be in a 1962-66 and 1967-1972 deluxe editions listening fest.

AIWFCIY and Last Christmas re-entered last year in the Singles chart this same week, but not in the top 40.

Official Charts! Can't you at least credit 'The' Beatles. Are you allergic to the word 'The', full artist credits and any song credits containing punctuation marks?!

K

karlmacnaughton

2

This drives me mad too. It's even worse because all the older charts with songs by The Beatles in do say "The Beatles" consistency and accuracy are pretty important in a chart. The unnecessary spelling changes and other inaccuracies through the years messes up the weeks on chart, etc. And, yes, what's wrong with question marks? What Was I Made For? definitely has a question mark in the title.

S

Skyclad

2

What was the reason for Cruel Summer disappearing from the charts for a week. Seems a bit weird.

avatar

Piran

3

Artists can only chart their three best performing songs as a lead credit in the UK at any one time.

Last week, it was 'Is It Over Now?', 'Now That We Don't Talk' and '!' for Taylor, so 'Cruel Summer' wasn't eligible to chart.

This week, 'Cruel Summer' replaced '!', hence why the latter dropped out from #5.

S

Skyclad

1

Seems a slightly stupid rule as it means the charts do not reflect true sales and streams

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, it was already bad enough with the ACR rule. :/

K

karlmacnaughton

2

I sort of agree but it dates back to when Ed Sheeran broke the chart in 2017 when he had 16 of the top 40 just because he released a new album. That does seem a bit more ridiculous.

There are certainly too many rules nowadays, though, and that makes the whole thing feel really artificial. Streams are also skewed by feedback from curated playlists, which opens it up to abuse in the same way as other charts around the world have become meaningless by including airplay (I realise that does go against my argument against so many rules somewhat!).

Oh well, it's still the best indication of what's popular right now that we've got at the moment, but things dropping 10 places or disappearing completely because of an abstract 'rule' does feel a bit weird.

@Geff... I think you don't know that one of the two you are mentioning as "dead when it was done" actually wrote the song, and therefore contributed to this song for most!

With ‘Strangers’ on ACR this week and ‘Prada’ potentially set to join it next week, that gives Tate McRae a prime opportunity to land her first ever #1 single or at the very least a new career peak, especially with the album and tour announcement.

That being said, I hope Dua Lipa gets a very high debut next week with ‘Houdini’ and challenges for her fifth chart-topper! 😊

The Beatles reaching #1 with their final single an absolutely incredible moment in the history of the Official Charts.

The fact they’ve been able to return to the summit for the first time in 54 years shows how iconic and influential they are as a band. Glad they’re getting the send-off they deserve and with a very good song at that! ❤️
