Zayn has debuted at  Number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with his debut single Pillowtalk.

The star blasts straight to the top of this week's chart, hitting a new peak on the tally over his former One Direction bandmates, who have yet to score at Number 1 single in the country. The group's highest peak is Number 2 with 2013's Best Song Ever.

Pillowtalk opened with 267,000 downloads and a massive 22.3 million US streams to take the top spot, making him the 25th act ever to debut at Number 1 on the Hot 100. He's also the first UK artist to debut at Number 1 with their first charted single, and the third UK act to do it overall (following Adele's Hello last year and Elton John's Candle In The Wind in 1997).

Meanwhile, Justin Bieber's Love Yourself slips to 2, Sorry is at 3, Twenty One Pilot's Stressed Out falls to 4, and Adele's Hello completes the Top 5.

Elsewhere, Drake's Summer Sixteen debuts at 6, his 16th US Top 10, Rihanna's Work hits a new peak at 7, and G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha's Me, Myself & I moves from 12 to 10.

On the Billboard 200 albums chart, Rihanna scores her second chart-topper with ANTi, which vaults from Number 27 following its surprise release earlier this month. Her last chart-topper was 2012's Unapologetic, though all her albums have charted inside the US Top 10.

Rapper and singer Kevin Gates debuts at Number 2 with his debut album Islah, Adele's 25 is at 3, and Sia's This Is Acting lands at Number 4, marking her second Top 5-charting album.

New entries further down the chart include Charlie Puth's debut collection Nine Track Mind (6), and G-Eazy's When It's Dark Out climbs two spots to enter the Top 10 at 10.

Jesus! 1D have never had a number 1 in America? I suppose with the exception of Adele and Ed Sheeran America really hates British music.

They don't have any great songs and they're a boyband, which aren't popular at all (in America)

Well I suppose they're lucky in a way. They seem obsessed with some GIRL bands though, but something tells me that they hate boybands because the country is very homophobic and anyone who does like them will probably be considered gay.

And as for the girls? They probably like Bieber more.
