will.i.am and Cody Wise on track for UK Number 1 with It's My Birthday
will.i.am is on track for his tenth UK Number 1 single with It’s My Birthday FT 17-year-old singer Cody Wise.
Rapper/singer/songwriter/producer and general all round musical powerhouse, will.i.am, is set to hit the Number 1 spot this weekend with It’s My Birthday, featuring 17-year-old US singer, Cody Wise.
It looks like getting to Number 1 will be a piece of cake for will.i.am! It’s My Birthday has a combined sales figure of over 42,000 so far this week, with just over 1% of that figure being accounted for by audio streams.
It’s the second week that audio streams from services such as; Spotify, Deezer, Napster, Music Unlimited, rara, Xbox Music and O2 Tracks have been included in the new-look Official Singles Chart, with 100 streams equating to one sale.
It’s My Birthday was written by Will and Cody, alongside Keith Harris (Madonna, Kelis, Britney Spears) and Indian composer, A.R. Rahman and, if it holds on to the top spot through to Sunday will be the tenth chart topper Will has appeared on, including five as a solo artist and five with The Black Eyed Peas.
The Vamps’ Somebody To You has seen a sales boost this week, climbing from Number 39 to Number 2 today, following the release of a version of the track featuring US star, Demi Lovato.
Meanwhile, current reigning pop princess, Ariana Grande’s Problem FT Iggy Azalea drops two places to Number 3 at this midway stage.
Entering the Top 40 at Number 4 is Jess Glynne’s Right Here. Although this is the 24-year-old’s first solo foray, she already has two huge chart toppers to her name having featured on Clean Bandit’s Rather Be and Route 94’s My Love.
Former X Factor star, Ella Henderson spends her fifth week in the Top 5 with debut single, Ghost (Number 5).
New Entries
Aside from will.i.am’s It’s My Birthday FT Cody Wise (Number 1) and Jess Glynne’s Right Here (4), there are two new entries on today’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 40.
British dance duo, Matrix & Futurebound enter the chart at Number 35 with Don’t Look Back FT Tanya Lacey, while former Nickelodeon stars Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller, AKA MKTO, are on track for their first UK Top 40 single, with Classic (Number 14).
