Will Young hints at quitting music: "I'm not particularly interested in the pop career anymore"

If you were anticipating a new Will Young in 2018, it looks like you'll be waiting a lot longer than you may have hoped. 

The singer and actor revealed that he is unlikely to return to music any time soon to focus on writing and his podcast Homo Sapiens. 

“I’ve stopped that for the moment," he said of releasing albums to Cornwall Live. I’m taking an elongated break. Actually, I don’t know if I’ll go back to it.

“I like to do things that get me excited and I’m not particularly interested in the pop career anymore. I don’t like to feel tied to a job. If I want to change my job at 50, I will. Money doesn’t bring happiness."

Will Young has notched up 11 Top 10 hits and four Number 1 albums since winning Pop Idol in 2002. His winner's single, Evergreen, is one of the UK's best-selling songs of all time, while most recent record, 85% Proof, spent at week at the top of the Official Albums Chart in June 2015.

“I want to concentrate on writing, acting and the podcast," He continued. "I’d like to be a psychotherapist, concentrating on voice and sound therapy. The voice is such an important tool, but we know so little about it; it’s a box of delights. Working with the voice – which I discovered through acting – can help with conflict and resolution as well as parenting and building confidence.

“I could definitely see myself moving to Cornwall full-time and becoming a therapist."
