Wicked defeats Gladiator II to claim a third week at Number 1

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in Wicked

Wicked knocks Gladiator II off the peak of the UK’s Official Film Chart following its release on disc.

As chart-record-breaking musical Wicked enjoys a release on DVD, Blu-ray and 4k UHD, it leaps back up to Number 1 to claim a third non-consecutive week at the top. 11 weeks into its chart run, the film still hasn’t drifted below Number 4 in the chart, and seven of these weeks have been at Number 1 or 2. Last Friday (14 March), its soundtrack broke the record for most consecutive weeks at Number 1 on the Official Compilations Chart.

Taking this week’s highest new entry is one of the most talked about films this awards season, comedy-drama A Real Pain (2). Starring and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, and co-starring Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain sees two mismatched cousins reunite for a tour through Poland to honour their grandmother, but soon see their old tensions resurface.

Falling to Number 3 is Gladiator II, last week’s Number 1 film, which glides in just ahead of fellow former chart-toppers, (and both being live-action animations) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 at Number 4, and Paddington in Peru at 5.

Our second new entry of the week is the fully animated DreamWorks action-comedy film Dog Man, which debuts at Number 6.

Recent chart regulars Moana 2 (7), Mufasa: The Lion King (8) and Conclave (9) all score another week in the Top 10, all dropping two places.

Finally, Marvel superhero film Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson bounces back into the Top 10, up five places. Previously it peaked at Number 5 upon its original release.
