Wicked storms to Number 1 on the Official Compilations Chart with record-breaking debut
The UK is definitely holding space for Wicked in the Official Charts.
Wicked: The Soundtrack – which features the vocal talents of Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey and more – storms to Number 1 this week on the Official Compilations Chart, Official Album Downloads Chart and Official Soundtrack Albums Chart.
In the process, it sets a hat-trick of Official Charts records – namely, the biggest debut week for a musical soundtrack in the 2020s, the biggest streaming debut for a musical soundtrack in UK chart history and the biggest week of vinyl sales for a musical soundtrack in the 21st century.
Even Madame Morrible would be impressed with that.

Big denouement number Defying Gravity from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande debuts at Number 7, becoming Erivo’s first and Grande’s 23rd Top 10 hit.
Further down, Grande’s version of Popular bows at Number 13, while What Is This Feeling, with Erivo and Grande, enters at Number 17.
Wicked: The Soundtrack is definitely off to a flying start as Defying Gravity battles for the coveted Christmas Number 1 spot in the coming weeks. Check out all the major contenders including Wham!, Mariah Carey and Ed Sheeran.
But for now, there's no doubt that Wicked: The Soundtrack has made an Official Charts debut that will leave its rivals feeling green with envy.
