When is Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s NYE Disco on TV and who is she performing with?

Earlier this year, Sophie Ellis-Bextor made a welcome return to the upper echelons of the Official Singles Chart when her classic hit Murder on the Dancefloor stormed all the way to Number 2 – the same position it peaked at back in 2001. The song's revival was fuelled by its inclusion in the extremely meme-able black comedy movie Saltburn, and Sophie has never looked back, even performing her tongue-in-cheek bop at the BAFTA Film Awards.

Now she's capping off an incredible year – call it a Sophaissance, we certainly are – by hosting Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s NYE Disco on the BBC. Here's everything you need to know about her glittering New Year's Eve party.

When is Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s NYE Disco on TV?

Sophie Ellis Bextor's NYE Disco airs in two parts on New Year's Eve, Tuesday December 31, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The first 30-minute part begins at 11.30pm and ends just before midnight, when the BBC switches to live coverages of the firework display from London's South Bank. 

The second 30-minute part of Sophie Ellis Bextor's NYE Disco will follow at 12.10am, at which point we'll officially be in 2025!

Who else is on Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s NYE Disco?

The BBC have announced that Sophie will be joined by special guests Jessie Ware, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters and Emily Roberts of The Last Dinner Party (which comes after The Last Dinner Party covered Murder on the Dancefloor, while Sophie returned the favour with a cover of the band's Top 20 hit Nothing Matters). She'll also be joined by the MDL Singers, a gospel choir led by Mark De-Lisser, who served as choir director for the King’s coronation and the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

Which songs will be performed on Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s NYE Disco?

We don't know which songs Sophie will perform, but Murder on the Dancefloor is surely a dead cert after its chart success earlier this year.  Given that Jake Shears is prepping for Scissor Sisters' 2025 reunion tour, it seems entirely possible that he and Sophie could team up for a rendition of one of the band's signature songs. Is it time to have a Kiki this New Year's Eve?!

Earlier this month, Sophie opened for Human League on their UK arena tour and performed her iconic Number 1 hit Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) as a medley with Modjo's Lady (Hear Me Tonight), ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) and her own banger Can't Fight This Feeling. Will we get to see this medley as part of her NYE Disco? Here's hoping, tbqh.
