WHAM!'s Last Christmas chasing Gracie Abrams for Number 1

Meanwhile, Tom Grennan's seasonal newbie It Can't Be Christmas surges into the Top 10.
WHAM! Last Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, with WHAM!'Last Christmas mounting a major challenge for this week's Number 1.

In today's update, George and Andrew are less than 1,400 chart units behind the frontrunner, That's So True by Gracie Abrams, which has just racked up a full month at Number 1

Another seasonal staple, Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas, is right behind at Number 3 having led yesterday's update with the release of its 2024 mix.

Released to mark Band Aid’s 40th anniversary, the new Ultimate Mix of the iconic charity single was produced by Trevor Horn. It features vocalists from the 1984 original, 2004’s Band Aid 20, and 2014’s Band Aid 30. All three versions have topped the Official Singles Chart, as did 1989’s Band Aid II.

Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You charges to Number 5 in today's update, while Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree is at Number 8.

Holding space in the Top 10 for a prospective second week is Defying Gravity by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, which sits at Number 7. The empowering ballad is taken from the Wicked soundtrack, which set a hat-trick of UK chart records on Friday.

There's also a strong surge from a brand new holiday song, Tom Grennan's It Can't Be Christmas, which glides to Number 9 in today's update. Following in the footsteps of Ellie Goulding and Sam Ryder, Tom's festival original is available exclusively on Amazon Music, and one to watch as the Christmas Number 1 race begins to heat up in the next few weeks.

The sixth and final Christmas song in today's Top 10 update is Bobby Helms' Jingle Bell Rock at Number 10.

Outside of the Top 10, there are gains from Elton John and Ed Sheeran's Merry Christmas at Number 11, Kelly Clarkson's Underneath the Tree at Number 12, Ariana Grande's Santa Tell Me at Number 13 and Pogues and Kirsty MacColl's Fairytale of New York at Number 14 - all of which could rise in the Top 20 come Friday.

Right behind, jazz-pop singer Laufey has two holiday songs in today's Top 20: her Amazon Music original Christmas Magic and her cover of Winter Wonderland at Number 17.

If these songs hold firm or climb by Friday, they'll become the Icelandic-Chinese musician's first Top 20 hits on the Official Singles Chart.
