UKIP Calypso sits outside Top 20 on midweek Official Chart Update

UKIP Calypso, a song performed by former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read, is sitting just outside the midweek Official Singles Chart Top 20, the Official Charts Company can confirm.

The song, which is at Number 21 on today’s Official Chart Update, was endorsed earlier this week by UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who encouraged supporters to help it reach Number 1 in the UK.

Reports today suggest that the single may be removed from sale by Read, after negative responses to the song which is performed with a mock Caribbean accent.

But sales of UKIP Calypso that have been made through legitimate Official Chart-reporting retailers this week prior to any withdrawal will continue to count towards this week’s Official Singles Chart.

The Official Singles Chart Top 100 will be published in full on Sunday at 7pm at www.officialcharts.com/music-charts.
