Tom Grennan’s all-new Amazon Original It Can’t Be Christmas is battling for this week’s coveted Official UK Christmas Number 1 single, and he’s permanently marked his dedication to the campaign… with a tattoo!

Sharing a video on social media, Tom showed footage of him getting ‘Christmas no.1 2024 is…’ tattooed on his right thigh. Now that’s commitment to the cause.

“I thought I’d make it interesting,” Tom says in a video he shared to his Instagram. “I’m going to get ‘Christmas no.1 2024 is…’ and I’m gonna let you lot decide what goes on my leg. It’s up to you. Stream it, buy the vinyl. We’ll see what happens. You lot, do not let this flop.”

The footage of Tom getting the tattoo done is soundtracked by It Can’t Be Christmas’ lyrics “Have I gone stupid? Maybe. Have I gone mad? Someone save me.” The Christmas Number 1 reveal on Friday will be the judge!

Bedford singer Tom is also not the first artist to get inked in the name of The Official Chart this year. He follows in the footsteps of indie heroes Shed Seven whose drummer Rob “Maxi” Maxfield decided on a permanent etching of the Number 1 Award after scoring the first Number 1 album of their career back in January with A Matter Of Time. A month later, Colchester punk outfit Pet Needs inked their chart position to celebrate their debut Top 20 album, Intermittent Fast Living.

Grennan’s It Can’t Be Christmas is one of Amazon Music’s new festive releases for 2024. The song first entered the Top 40 two weeks ago reaching Number 25, before climbing to Number 6 on last Friday’s chart.

Tom Grennan is the latest in a string of other British acts who have recorded exclusive yuletide tracks for Amazon Music UK. In 2023, Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder went all the way to Number 2 with his holiday song You’re Christmas To Me, while Jorja Smith peaked at Number 16 with her cover of East 17’s 1994 Christmas Number 1 Stay Another Day.

George Ezra topped out at 8 with Come On Home For Christmas in 2021, and Olivia Dean took The Christmas Song to 19 that same year.

Jess Glynne sleighed to Number 3 in 2020 with This Christmas, and Ellie Goulding’s River became the final Number 1 of the 2010s at the end of 2019.
