Tina Turner heading for Top 10 as music fans mourn loss of a legend, Lewis Capaldi heads for second week at Number 1

Following her death aged 83 last week, the Queen of Rock and Roll could have four albums in the Official Chart come Friday.

Two albums by Tina Turner are tracking for the Official Albums Chart Top 10 this week, as UK music fans pay tribute to the legend, who died last week aged 83.

Anointed the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina’s greatest hits compilation The Platinum Collection is her biggest climber so far this week, looking to enter the Top 10 for the first time at Number 8, having peaked at Number 14 in 2009. It could be joined at Number 10 by her former chart-topping 1989 LP Foreign Affair, known for its biggest single, The Best. See Tina Turner’s Official most-streamed tracks in the UK here.

But that’s not all, as two more records by the pop icon could also make it into the wider Top 40 this week. 1994 compilation The Collected Recordings is predicted to enter the chart for the first time ever at Number 12, while Tina’s iconic 1984 career comeback vehicle Private Dancer could bow at Number 31, having peaked at Number 2 upon its original release.

Following his arrival at Number 1 last week with the fastest-selling album of 2023 so far, Lewis Capaldi’s Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent is once again in the lead to take the top spot, just ahead of two former Number 1s. Taylor Swift’s Midnights (2) rises thanks to the release of Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition), and Harry Styles’ Harry’s House (3) is back on the ascent as he brings his Love On Tour show home to the UK.

Leading the pack for this week’s highest new entry is Simply Red’s Time (4) which could grant Mick Hucknall and co. their 15th Top 10 LP. This is very closely followed by other prospective high debuts from Mercury Prize-winning singer-songwriter Arlo Parks’ second album My Soft Machine (5), and Sparks’ The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte (6), which could be their highest UK chart peak since 1974.

The 50th anniversary re-issue of Mike Oldfield’s influential debut album Tubular Bells, which originally topped the chart in 1973, is set to send the album back into the chart at Number 9.

Outside the Top 10, US rapper Lil Durk aims for a Top 20 debut with his new album Almost Healed (13), which contains collaborations with the likes of J Cole, Future and Alicia Keys. It would be the Chicago native’s sixth Top 40 collection.

Tina Turner should be at number 1 with one of her albums!! Can't believe she won't make the Top 5 by Friday!! unbelievable and so unfair!!

Why is it unfair? I have nothing against Tina Turner, I just wasn't a fan (although Proud Mary is one of the best songs ever). Any fans will already have her albums, anyone buying them now are just buying them to say "It was so sad, I am a huge fan, I have her Greatest Hits".

I agree. This isn't a dig at the person you've quoted, but more the GP in general, as I've always found that those popping up after someone's death to say they're a "fan" are jumping on the bandwagon wanting attention.

I've been a Tina fan ever since hearing Let's Stay Together in the 80's (before What's Love Got To Do With It came out), and bought Private Dancer with my own pocket money as a kid. I also bought her classic albums: Break Every Rule and Foreign Affair soon after, so I guess you could say I've been a fan for almost 40 years. A true fan would've already owned her music before now. She was a woman with incredible talent that should've received much more adoration than she did. It would be nice to see her at number one though.

I remember seeing Bradley Walsh talking to a woman last year who said she was "a massive Meat Loaf fan". He asked her "Have you ever met him?" - "No". "Have you seen him live?" - "No". "Have you seen Bat Out Of in London?" - "No. But I have got his greatest hits album"!

Personally I think that streaming or buying her music from the extensive and quality back catalogue she has rather than seeking validation by saying nice things on the internet about her to see how many likes you get is a more fitting tribute. But that'w what people see as important these days, "oh look people like me because I posted something kind". So, I agree with you, in other words. Lol.

Lmao. Yeah, a massive fan to me would be someone that's completely infatuated with the artist, has seen them live, knows their history, has every album and knows the lyrics inside out. Owning a GH's that's been collecting dust on a shelf for years isn't the same. lol.
