Thrift Shop checks out at Number 1
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hit Number 1 with self-released single, Thrift Shop.
The Seattle-based duo’s cheeky ode to the joy of second-hand clothes shopping, has to date racked up almost 157,000 UK sales, debuting in the Top 100 mid-January before climbing and climbing through the Top 40 to land the top spot today. Thrift Shop’s hilarious bargain-hunting video has also notched up 91 million YouTube views.
The zebra-clad US collaborators told OfficialCharts.com:
"We're honoured, and tremendously excited to see Thrift Shop at the top of the UK charts. It's incredible to see that our music has connected with people all over the world. We're so very humbled by all of the love and support we've received, and as independent artists, the support of great fans means everything"
Thrift Shop has also topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand and the US’s Billboard Hot 100.
British duos Disclosure and AlunaGeorge (the latter were nominated for the 2013 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award) jump 26 places to Number 2 with White Noise, giving each act their highest charting hit to date.
Bingo Players and Far East Movement’s Get Up (Rattle) is down two to Number 3 after two weeks at the peak, while Emeli Sande’s Clown (Number 4) climbs four places.
Recently re-united rockers Fall Out Boy claim the week’s highest new entry and their first Top 5 hit since 2007’s, This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race. My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (5)– the band’s first new material since going on hiatus in 2009 – was released on Monday to coincide with the news that Fall Out Boy will be playing this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.
High Climbers
Little Mix’s Change Your Life is up 19 places to Number 12 giving the 2011 X Factor winners their fourth Top 20 single in a row, while The Fray’s 2007 single, How To Save A Life, re-enters the Top 40, climbing 27 places to Number 30.
One Direction’s Ed Sheeran-penned former Number 1, Little Things, is up 17 places to 36, and Nickelback’s How You Remind Me shoots 28 places to re-enter the Official Singles Chart Top 40 at Number 38.
