The singer surprised-released her ninth studio album last Friday (Dec 11).

Taylor Swift is set to land the highest new entry on this week’s Official Singles Chart – plus a further two Top 40 placings – with songs from her surprise new album Evermore.

The record’s lead single Willow is on track to debut inside the Top 10 this Friday (Dec 18), currently at Number 4 on the Official Chart First Look, while Champagne Problems (12) and No Body No Crime ft.  Haim (15) feature in the Top 20. If they hold on, it’ll lift Swift’s tally of UK Top 40s to 34.

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You is holding at Number 1, closely trailed by Wham’s Last Christmas at Number 2.

Two newly-recorded Christmas songs for 2020 could climb into this week’s Top 10: Jess Glynne’s This Christmas lifts ten places to 3, and Justin Bieber’s rendition of Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree rockets 17 spots to 7.

The Official Singles Chart Top 100 is revealed on OfficialCharts.com every Friday at 5.45pm. Listen to the Top 40 countdown live on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart show with Scott Mills every Friday from 4pm.

Yeah sorry mate, but Taylor's got no chance. After the Christmas avalanche is over, she'll probably bounce back, but probably only as far as where she currently is.

I know it’s very unlikely for her to debut at #1, but with me being a huge Swiftie, I was just hoping for the best! ;)

At least with ‘Positions’ going on ACR very soon, she has a strong opportunity to contend for #1 in January.

Yeah, for another five days, then she’ll be #1! :P

Urgh... I think I’d go insane if she peaked at #2 for a fourth time. :/

I’m loving the album. I love it even more every time I hear it. I want willow to get to number one, but being Christmas time it’s sadly unlikely. I do think it will have a much better chart run than Cardigan though, and I also want NBNC to enter the top 10 as well, because that’s my favourite on the album.

If it weren’t for Taylor I’d agree

Isn't it one of the 'hazards' of releasing a surprise album/single that sales are more likely to peak in the first week due to a surge in interest and decline from then on? That was certainly the story when Taylor Swift did this earlier in the year.

On the other hand she has the time of year on her side this time, due to the inevitable exodus of Christmas songs in the first full week of January and the fact that it's not common to see a lot of big new releases at the start of the year. Unless of course, somebody else plays the same trick and releases something by surprise at the start of January.

As for Christmas #1 I can't see it being anything other than Mariah Carey or Wham tbh, probably Mariah.

Umm... Some news has just come in: a certain Mark Hoyle is going for Christmas number 1 again. Go on his YouTube channel and watch the latest video (skip to 1:14)
Tbh, he has a valid reason for doing it.

Regarding the latter point, I reckon the huge sales numbers for either the NHS ‘Holy’ re-recording, or LadBaby’s third campaign (yes, he’s back again!), will mean that we’ll likely have a charity song at #1 instead of a Christmas song!

I really hope it’s anything but the latter of those. :/

If it were any other time of year, Taylor would be on course for her second #1 single this Friday, haha.

Even with all the festive classics here, she still moved up to #3 in today’s update! :D

The midweek climbs for Bieber and Jess Glynne, along with the drops for Little Mix and Positions (sadly for the latter) should not be taken for granted. Mariah and Wham being 1 & 2 is far too obvious, but for history's sake, I hope Wham close the gap on Mariah and take over.

I don’t think Taylor will be leading the singles chart on Friday unfortunately (although that would be incredible), but a second #1 album of 2020 would be enough to make my week! 🤞

She will be the new years number 1 think

I’ll happily take Taylor being the first #1 of a hopefully far better year. :)

Yes probably not but she gave us a great early christmas present so thats fine for me^^ I will be happy if Wham take over the number one spot, lets figure this out on friday!
Have a nice week btw😄

Following on from Kylie's rarity of 3 #1s in as many years, we could have another one this week.
2 new-release #1s in a year. How often has that happened?
2 #1s in a year has been done loads of times when an old album hangs on or climbs up or a is combined with a Greatest Hits or reissue. 2 albums of new material is unusual!

Funnily enough, I asked a very similar question on the albums chart article! Hopefully the OCC will provide an answer on Friday. :)

Hey ShadowCat! :D

Yeah, thinking back to a week ago from now, I didn’t think it would even be possible for Taylor to be debuting in the Top 5 here, so this still warms my heart an awful lot, haha.

You have a nice week too!

Obviously Mariah being on track for a second week at #1 is amazing, but it would be another history-making chart moment to see Wham finally do it this year too (they’ve been waiting even longer to get the top anyway). :)
