The Voice winner Mo Adeniran on life after the show: "It feels like first day of school"
He's got the voice, but what's next for this year's champion?
I'm still very surprised I won to be honest! I’m just really grateful to the general public for voting for me and sticking by me throughout the show.
Tomorrow I go into the studio to start recording the new EP. We're having a meeting about it today and I’ll probably have more clarity on the details of it after that. I think it’ll be a mix of original songs and covers.
I’m really excited – I have great management and an awesome label and every wants what’s best for me. It’s like the first day of school – we’re all going to come together today and have a chat about what's ahead for the next few months. I’m very happy and relaxed. It’s going to be good.
I've been writing songs for years and music has always been my passion – it’s been an essential part of my life since I was a kid. I want to be able to write and get my thoughts and feelings out to people in a positive, constructive way. I will definitely be writing songs and I’m planning to collaborate with other writers as well. Two hands are better than one, as they say.
Sound-wise, I’m not going for any one particular vibe, genre or style. For me, I tend to go for the feeling or the emotion that I want to give out. Sticking to one genre can limit your creativity and I think that could get a bit tedious and boring over time. I don’t want to pigeonhole myself.
They are filming my winner's documentary as we speak right now! It’s not too weird as I’ve been on a TV show for a few months now – another week of cameras won’t hurt me. I believe the show is mainly going to be about the journey from winning The Voice to recording and release the EP, and then what’s next. I’m looking forward to it.
I certainly won’t be heading back to my old job at the Village Hotel any time soon. I worked as a waiter and as a night porter. It was a very interesting job – you meet some nice people and… I enjoyed myself. It’s strange to think that last year I was taking Tinchy Stryder room service. It was all part and parcel of the job though.
It doesn’t seem that long ago yet. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it there and I was working with some great people, but it’s not what I wanted for my career. I just saw it as a job that paid the bills. Now I have the opportunity to do what I’ve always wanted.

Jennifer was truly amazing to work with. I’ve got nothing by praise for her. She’s amazing. I couldn’t have won without her because she’s had faith in me since day one. It was amazing for me because I got the opportunity to work with such an amazing woman. It’s her first year on The Voice and she won! I’m happy for her.
I really enjoyed our duet together - it was my personal highlight of the competition. It was nice to end on that high. It was challenging, for sure, but it was my favourite performance that I’ve done in my life. It’s one I’ll always remember and cherish.
