The Top 20 blues albums of 2011 revealed

Sales of albums by Hugh Laurie and Seasick Steve have helped blues boost it’s share of the British albums market by 50% over the last twelve months.

Sales of albums by Hugh Laurie (pictured) and Seasick Steve have helped blues boost it’s share of the British albums market by 50% over the last twelve months new data from the Official Chart Company reveals.

Blues’ total market share is up to 0.9% of all albums sold in the UK, compared to 0.6% in 2010. Hugh Laurie’s debut release, ‘Let Them Talk’, sold over 192,000 copies since its release in May, while Seasick Steve’s latest album, ‘You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks’, which was also released in May, has shifted over 131,000 copies to date. Combined with his catalogue release, Seasick Steve accounts for 25% of the Top 20 blues albums sold during 2011.
