The Rolling Stones will embark on a stadium tour of America this summer, it has been announced.

The legendary rock band will play 15 shows across North America between May and July this year, kicking off in San Diego on May 24 at Petco Park.

Mick Jagger said in a statement: "We are excited to be back in North America playing stadiums this summer! We are looking forward to being back on stage and playing your favorite songs."

Keith Richards added: "We love being out on the road and it is great to come back to North America! I can't wait to get back on the stage!"

The jaunt - called the Zip Code tour - follows their 2014 On Fire dates in Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Tickets for the dates go on sale Monday, April 13. For more information visit rollingstones.com.

The tour coincides with the re-release of their Sticky Fingers album on May 25.
