The Record Club: FIZZ discuss having "no pressure" on debut album The Secret To Life
FIZZ joined The Record Club this week to discuss the release of their debut album as a band, The Secret To Life.
Formed of four friends - and four distinct artists in their own right - FIZZ brings in the talents of Orla Gartland, Dodie, Martin Luke Brown and Greta Isaac and have seen a startling rise since forming last year. They've signed a major label deal to Decca and earlier this month, The Secret To Life debuted straight inside the Top 40 of the Official Albums Chart at Number 31.
Joining BBC Radio 1's Jess Iszatt, FIZZ member Dodie said that what made getting the band together in the first place was that all four members were looking for "breaks" away from their individual solo projects, and were up to experiment and play with each other with no expectations.
"We didn't ever say, let's write an album, let's sign to a label," Dodie said. "We didn't want to put any pressure on what we were going to sound like or who we were going to be, because that's what we were trying to escape from."

Dodie added that even though there were times when all four members may have disagreed over certain lyrics or sounds, they were ultimately able to move past any issues quite quickly, because there was "no pressure" attached to FIZZ as a project.
"We all learned a lot from it," Dodie summised, "of letting go of that ego. We put the trust in our friends, because we all trust each other and love each other's music so much."
Designed as a book club for albums, The Record Club in association with Bowers & Wilkins is a bi-monthly livestream, hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Jess Iszatt, on Facebook Live, Twitch, Twitter and YouTube Live every other Wednesday. The Record Club is also now available to watch/listen back in full as a podcast on Spotify.
Fans are encouraged to order the selected album from their favourite local record shop either in-store or on home delivery, listen to it in full, then tune into the broadcast armed with their questions for the artist and a chance to win a prize.
