It's the most important time of year for Chart fans - as the race for this year's Official Christmas Number 1 has just begun!

Today (Friday 17) marks 7 days until 2021's Christmas Number 1 will be announced live on BBC Radio 1 by Scott Mills.

Leading the charge, of course, is LadBaby, who has announced his bid to break a long held Official Charts record, teaming up with Ed Sheeran and Elton John for new single Sausage Rolls For Everyone.

A remix of Ed and Elton's UK Number 1 single Merry Christmas, LadBaby are hoping the song will clinch Number 1, thereby making them the only act in UK chart history to achieve four consecutive Christmas Number 1s. Currently, they tie with both The Beatles and Spice Girls as the only acts with three.

MORE: The 2021 Christmas Number 1 contenders in full

The Christmas Number 1 is a British institution – and often the most unpredictable chart race of the year. Previous festive chart-toppers have been claimed by music icons – including Spice Girls, Queen and The Beatles - to cartoon characters, punk-rock disruptors, TV talent show winners, and all-star charity records. Look back at every Official Christmas Number 1 here.

But who will claim the UK's most coveted Number 1 single this year? Will it be a record-breaker for LadBaby, Ed and Elton? Or maybe a festive classic will claim it - in the last 12 months, both Wham! and Mariah Carey's Last Christmas and All I Want For Christmas Is You reached Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart for the first time, in January 2021 and December 2020 respectively. With both tracks already in the Top 10, it's certainly within reach.

Or could Adele's reign of supremacy on the Official Charts continue well into Christmas? It really is all to play for, and fans of the charts and pop music alike are in for a very exciting week.

Keep your eyes peeled on OfficialCharts.com and our social for all the latest updates as the week progresses!

The 2021 Official Christmas Number 1 will be announced on Friday, December 24 live on BBC Radio 1's The Official Chart with Scott Mills. “It’s my favourite chart of the year," Scott says, "and I’m so excited to host it!”

You seem to have forgotten the choice of song accurately describing the current Prime Minister for some reason.

I think we all know who’s getting it this year, but it would amazing to see ‘Last Christmas’ in the following chart!

We started 2021 with Wham! at the top, so it’d be good to see it end that way too. :)

Your argument is completely irrelevant. You obviously don't know or don't understand the Official Chart rules. A Christmas Number One is always the number one song preceded Christmas Day. I think that you should get your facts right first and stop posting about your irrelevant argument all the time.

yeah you can preceded Christmas Day or any day, but you cant call it a christmas chart if any dates of a chart doesnt contain the 1st day of Christmas data and sadly radio 1 and Top Of The Pops media is always behind and data taking before 25th December, so it not Christmas Chart until the following Week, it like saying, for example i know there not playing this is just a example Liverpool match playing against Chelsea on 27th December 2021 and the next match of any of those playing is 4th Jan 2022, you wouldnt say that was a cracking match on the opening of 2022, because you still in 2021. that just silly.
