It’s a tale as old as time, but the story of Beauty and The Beast is one that is still captivating fans as the 2017 remake claims the biggest selling DVD/Blu-ray release of 2017.
Released on home entertainment formats in June, the Disney movie, which stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, has shifted 1.28 million copies, and nudged out Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2) as the year’s best-selling DVD in the final quarter. Rogue One ends 2017 with 1.19 million units sold.
The news comes as it is announced that Beauty and the Beast narrowly lost out as the year's highest grossing film at cinemas in 2017, pipped to the post by Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Meanwhile, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is the third million seller of 2017, just passing the threshold to become the year’s third biggest DVD. Disney’s third entry in the Top 5 is Moana at Number 4 (1 million sales), and former Official Video Chart Number 1 Bridget Jones’s Baby is at Number 5 (864,000).
Elsewhere in the Top 10, Guardians of the Galaxy finishes at Number 6 in the year end chart, ahead of Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. Number 7 after just a fortnight's worth of sales. Animated entries complete the Top 10: Dreamworks' Trolls is at Number 8, while Universal's Sing and Despicable Me 3 are at Number 9 and 10 respectively.

Doctor Strange, a former Official Video Chart Number 1 just misses the Top 10 at Number 11, and finally, The Girl on the Train starring Emily Blunt ranks highest for DVDs that didn’t hit Number 1 on the Official Video Chart. It peaked at Number 2 in February and ranks at Number 15 on the 2017 Top 40.
