The Official Biggest Songs of Summer 2014 revealed!

As the summer months draw to a close, OfficialCharts.com can reveal that Ella Henderson’s Ghost and Ed Sheeran’s Sing are the biggest songs of the season.

Ella’s Ghost is today confirmed as the biggest selling song this summer, notching up sales of 578,000 between June and August.

Ella told Official Charts: “I am completely overwhelmed by the success of Ghost! To have one of the biggest selling songs of the year is absolutely insane. It doesn't feel real. I can't thank everyone enough for all the support. Thank you!”

Ghost, which was co-written with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, topped the Official Singles Chart in June and served as Ella’s debut after competing in the finals of the 2012 series of The X Factor.

Elsewhere, Rude by Canadian band Magic! – who hit Number 1 August - are the third most downloaded song this summer with sales of 336,000, and George Ezra’s Budapest finished fourth with sales of 328,000. The song peaked at Number 3 on the chart but logged a ten-week reign inside the Top 10 this summer.

The British public’s fifth most-purchased track of the summer comes courtesy of Ariana Grande FT Iggy Azalea’s Problem, while further down, Sam Smith’s Stay With Me (6) rides high in the rundown. The track is taken from his record-breaking debut album In The Lonely Hour which became the fastest-selling debut of the year so far after it shifted 102,000 copies in its opening week.

Oliver Heldens and Becky Hill’s Gecko is at Number 7, and despite reaching Number 1 back in April, breezy summer anthem Waves by Mr Probz has continued its life beyond spring to rock up as the 8th biggest seller of the summer months too. John Legend’s All Of Me (9) and Cheryl Cole’s Crazy Stupid Love complete the Top 10.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran’s Sing is also revealed today as the most streamed song this summer.

The track, which was co-produced by Pharrell Williams, hit Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart for one week in June and was streamed 13 million times between June and August.

Mr Probz finished second place with 12.5 million audio steams for Waves, and Ella’s Ghost placed fourth on 11 million steams.

Despite being released 12 months ago, John Legend’s All Of Me continues to feature way up high on Britain’s playlists - the fifth most streamed song between June and August with 10.7 million streams.

Iggy Azalea FT Charli XCX’s Fancy benefits significantly from streaming, racking up a cool 9.6 million audio streams to take position as the 7th most listened to song of summer 2014, compared to finishing at Number 31 in the best sellers list.
