The Official best-selling vinyl albums and singles of 2024 so far

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department retains its title as the best-selling vinyl album of 2024 so far, while Liam Gallagher and John Squire's Just Another Rainbow secures the year’s best-selling vinyl single, Official Charts can confirm today.  

Shifting a total of 87,000 copies on wax since its release in April, Tortured Poets stands tall as the best-selling album of the year so far overall.  

Upon its chart debut, Tay’s 11th Number 1 album (equalling Madonna’s long-held UK chart record) logged the biggest opening week for an album in the UK in 7 years, since Ed Sheeran’s Divide in 2017. 

Last week, Official Charts also confirmed The Tortured Poets Department also stands tall as the best-selling album of 2024 overall so far, confirming Taylor’s monolithic status as the biggest pop star in the world right now.  

Coming in at second place we have a newly reunited Oasis, with Definitely Maybe (2) getting a boost from its big 30th anniversary re-issue. Clocking in 38,000 vinyl sales, the re-issue was bolstered by the long-awaited news thar Liam and Noel Gallagher would be putting their differences aside for a reunion tour next year. Just last month, Definitely Maybe returned to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart for the first time in 30 years. 

Billie Eilish’s experimental third album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT comes in at Number 3, while the Top 5 is completed by Fontaines D.C’s Romance (4) and Chappell Roan’s debut LP The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (5), which has seen an extraordinary rise (and rise!) this year, topping the Official Albums Chart for the first time, nearly a year out from its original release. 

Other 2024 Number 1 records to make the Top 10 include Sabrina Carpenter’s breakthrough sixth album Short n’ Sweet (6), Liam Gallagher & John Squire’s self-titled collaboration (7) and The Last Dinner Party’s baroque debut album Prelude to Ecstasy  (9).  

Further down in the Top 20, other album releases this year include; Dua Lipa’s chart-topping Radical Optimism (11), Charli xcx’s BRAT (14), Green Day’s Saviors (17), Paul Weller’s 66 (19) and Beyoncé’s auteristic reclamation of the country genre, COWBOY CARTER (20).  

Joining the ranks of the Top 40, we have Ariana Grande’s first album in 4 years, eternal sunshine (21), Noah Kahan’s Stick Season (22), Twenty One Pilots’ Clancy (23), The Smile’s Wall of Eyes (25), The Libertines’ All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade (26) and Pet Shop Boys’ Nonetheless (33)  

Finally, we have two Number 1 records closing out the list; Gracie Abrams’ first chart-topper The Secret Of Us (36) and Shed Seven’s A Matter of Time (39), which set a UK chart record this year for the longest gap between the release of an act’s debut album and their first Number 1 (29 years, three months).   

The Official best-selling vinyl singles of 2024 so far 

Liam Gallagher & John Squire’s Just Another Rainbow remains the Official biggest vinyl single of 2024 so far. 

The lead single from the duo's self-titled first album together, Just Another Rainbow peaked at Number 16 on the Official Singles Chart, becoming Liam's highest-charting single as a named artist in the UK. 

At Number 2 is the biggest single overall of 2024, Noah Kahan's mighty Stick Season, followed by Oasis’s Supersonic at Number 3, thanks to a re-release to celebrate its 30th anniversary. 

We have Chappell Roan’s sapphic lament Good Luck, Babe! at Number 4 and strutting in at Number 5, Ariana Grande’s yes, and?. 

Completing the Top 10, we have Olivia Rodrigo’s own BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge cover of Stick Season (6) following its exclusive physical release for Record Store Day, RAYE’s experimental Genesis. (7) and Sabrina Carpenter’s blockbuster Number 1 smash Espresso (8).
