The Last Dinner Party earn biggest album debut by a band in nine years with Prelude to Ecstasy

The five-piece hit some seriously impressive chart feats with their debut album.

The Last Dinner Party hit a major milestone as they earn a Number 1 debut with Prelude to Ecstasy.

Made up of members Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies and Aurora Nishevci, the 2024 BRITs Rising Star winners see their debut album earn 32,800 chart units in its first week.

It’s the biggest opening week for a debut album by a band since 2015, when Years & Years managed 55,000 with their debut LP Communion. See every Number 1 debut album in the UK since 2000 here.

Prelude to Ecstasy is also the best seller in UK independent record shops this week, landing at Number 1 on the Official Record Store Chart, and is the biggest vinyl album of the week too. With over 14,000 vinyl copies included in its total, it's the fastest-selling debut album by a group on vinyl of the century, and the highest sales week for a vinyl album since Oasis’ The Masterplan remaster in November.

Meanwhile, Liverpudlian singer-songwriter Jamie Webster earns his third Top 10 and highest-charting album to date with 10 For The People, which lands straight in at Number 2. Previously, Jamie reached Number 6 with 2020’s We Get By, and Number 3 with 2022’s Moments.

Following the announcement of her next album The Tortured Poets Department earlier this week, Taylor Swift sees several of her albums rebound back up the Official Albums Chart; 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (5), Midnights (6), Folklore (10), Lover (13), reputation (14), and Evermore (40).

Paul McCartney & Wings see their third album Band on the Run return to the Top 40 for the first time since 2010, landing at Number 16 – its highest placing since June 1975 – following a special 50th anniversary reissue.

Glaswegian singer-songwriter Dylan John Thomas lands at Number 21 with his self-titled debut album, closely followed by psychedelic rockers Kula Shaker whose latest release Natural Magick becomes their fourth Top 40 album at 22.

Finally, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ greatest hits collection Legend (25) leaps back up 10 places this week as excitement builds for the release of biopic Bob Marley: One Love on 14 February. To date, it has spent over 300 weeks in the Official Albums Chart Top 40.
