The Cure's Official most-streamed songs of all-time in the UK revealed
The Cure have, over a career now spanning over 40 years, accumulated one of the most unique discographies in all of British rock music.
Across 14 albums, The Cure - spearheaded by frontman Robert Smith - have been labelled many things as a band; goth-rock, New Wave, post-punk, alternative..and in a way, they are all of these things. And in another way, they are so much more.
As their first album in 16 years, Songs of a Lost World, is on track to become The Cure's first UK Number 1 album in 32 (!) years, we've crunched the numbers to reveal , for the first time ever, the most-streamed songs ever by The Cure on the UK's Official Charts.
But before we reveal the chart in full, let's take a closer look at the Top 3...
3. Just Like Heaven
Released: 1987
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 29
Total UK streams: 82 million
Called by Robert Smith himself as the best pop song The Cure ever made, Just Like Heaven does - indeed - sound like a miracle. Over a cascading bass line and dreamy synths, Just Like Heaven was written by Smith about a trip to the seaside he had taken with his future wife when he was a younger man.
In 1987, Just Like Heaven became an important bridge track for the band - it was their first single to crack the Top 40 in the US.
2. Boys Don't Cry
Released: 1979
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 22
Total UK streams: 93 million
Boys Don't Cry is a deliciously bittersweet lament, perfectly pitched by Smith as an interrogation of that very British tendency to bury your feelings deep down and not show any emotion, even when you're struggling.
And if the track's enduring popularity wasn't obvious to you, Boys Don't Cry has inspired both the title of a film (the 1999 drama starring Hilary Swank and Chloe Sevigny) and Frank Ocean's record label.
1. Friday I'm In Love
Released: 1992
Official Singles Chart peak: Number 6
Total UK streams: 137 million
The most mainstream offering of The Cure's entire career, the story goes that after first creating Friday I'm In Love, Robert Smith became paranoid that he'd accidentally stolen the song's melody from someone, since it sounded so familiar.
Spoiler alert: He hadn't!
Friday I'm In Love is (obviously) The Cure's most-streamed song ever in the UK, coming in with 137 million streams in total, as well as the band's most-streamed video clip (7 million video streams).
