The Chainsmokers have soared to the top of this week's Official Trending Chart with their latest single Closer.

The DJ/producer duo's new collaboration with US singer Halsey tops the list of songs making a big impact in the UK this week, based on movement up the Official Singles Chart. The track looks set to hit the Top 5 this Friday (August 19), up eight places from last week.

The Chainsmokers are on a winning streak at the moment; they're still enjoying success with Don't Let Me Down, a song that reached Number 2 less than a month ago, while previous effort Roses peaked at 16 back in February. Click here to see the group's full UK chart history.

Another song making waves this week is Olly Murs' You Don't Know Love. The song, which follows last October's Kiss Me, is currently up by 21 places on this week's Official Singles Chart five weeks after it first hit the Top 40.

Elsewhere, producer Tieks continues to see his single Sunshine grow, and Martin Garrix's latest effort In The Name Of Love ft. Bebe Rexha appears on this week's trending tally, on course to make its Top 40 debut this Friday.

Finally, a number of brand new songs released last Friday (August 12) land on the Official Trending Chart, including OneRepublic's Kids, Green Day's Bang Bang, A-List by London trio WSTRN, and Bon Jovi's title track from their upcoming album, This House Is Not For Sale.

About the Official Trending Chart

The Official Trending Chart is a brand new chart launched for 2016 to highlight the hottest new tracks beginning to make an impact in the UK every week.

The Top 20 rundown, published on OfficialCharts.com every Tuesday, based on the first four days’ sales of each chart week, is designed to highlight emerging hits as they begin to scale the Official Charts and build buzz.

The Official Trending Chart ranks titles which are showing week-on-week chart growth, and is the only “new music” chart to reflect audio track sales and streams comprehensively across all services.

Devised by the Official Charts Company in close consultation with labels, retailers and media, the chart since launch has already highlighted emerging hits such as Number 1 singles Mike Posner’s I Took A Pill In Ibiza and Drake's One Dance.

The chart is designed to help highlight hit singles in their early stages of their growth, in the light of the shift in release strategies of record labels over the past six months. Under “On Air On Sale”, labels have started to release new music for consumers to buy or stream on the same day as those tracks are released to media (including radio stations and TV).
