The Blizzards have announced their first new studio album in 11 years.

The Last Great Algorithm is the follow-up to 2008's Domino Effect and is released independently via RR55 on Tuesday, October 15. The album was produced by Philip Magee, who worked on Kodaline's debut record In A Perfect World.

The first single from the 10-track album Who Would Want To Be In A Guitar Band? drops on Friday September 20.

Bressie of The Blizzards said: “The track was borne out of the very considered feedback from a media playlister about the perception that one of our songs was 'too guitary'. Shocked at realising that guitars were now illegal, we had two choices. Give up, or write this song. We gave up actually. But our manager kicked our asses so here’s the song we wrote to retaliate.”

In addition to announcing their first new music since 2018's standalone single I Need A Win, the four-piece comprising of Bressie, Dec, Justin and Louize will embark on a 10-date national tour from October through December. Tickets for the shows go on sale this Friday (August 30).

To round out a trio of huge announcements, The Blizzards have also announced a short film that documents creating their new album. The Blizzards: Behind The Music premieres at Dublin's Irish Film Institute (IFI) the same day their new single is released on September 20.

Could The Last Great Algorithm become The Blizzards' first Number 1 on the Official Irish Albums Chart? The band released two studio albums in the Noughties, with their 2006 debut A Public Display of Affection peaking at Number 4, and Domino Effect from 2008 reaching Number 2. Lead vocalist Bressie topped the chart as a soloist in 2013 with Rage and Romance.
