Taylor Swift scoops Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart for a second week with Folklore.

Boosted by an earlier than expected release of the album on CD, Folklore holds on to the top spot with a lead of 3,500 chart sales over its closest competitor.

Folklore is now Taylor’s longest-reigning Number 1 album in the UK, her previous chart-topping albums, Red (2012), 1989 (2014), Reputation (2017) and Lover (2019) all held on to the top spot for just one week.

It means the new album by Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C., A Hero’s Death, settles for second place after a strong start earlier this week. The band do however land at the top of this week’s Official Vinyl Albums Chart and Record Store Albums Chart, with a third of the album's sales coming from independent record shops.

Also enjoying a Top 5 debut this week are Southampton horror punk band Creeper, who earn their highest chart position yet with Sex, Death & The Infinite Void at Number 5. Their 2017 debut album Eternity In Your Arms peaked at Number 17.

Alanis Morissette’s ninth record and first in eight years, Such Pretty Forks In The Road, debuts at Number 8, earning the musician her fifth Top 10 album and first in 16 years, since 2004’s So-Called Chaos.

New Wave band The Psychedelic Furs claim their fifth Top 20 with Made Of Rain at 13, their first album in almost 30 years, while Sir Paul McCartney lands at Number 14 with a reissue of his 1997 solo album Flaming Pie.

Finally, British-German composer Max Richter claims his first ever Top 40 album with Voices, entering at Number 26.

I think the Swift fans are getting a bit touchy on here this week. As I mentioned before, I’m not a fan of either so have nothing against her being number one. My point was her record company didn’t need to panic and bring forward the physical release. If they had kept to the original schedule I’m sure she would’ve gone back to number 1 next week anyway. Anyway, we’re all entitled to our own opinion 😡

Man, lots of people are coming across as really jealous of Taylor on here this week! :/

To any Fontaine's D.C. fans reading this, #2 is still an absolutely massive achievement & there's no shame in being just because arguably one of the biggest artists of the century so far!

In fact, their last album (which was released just over a year ago) barely cracked the Top 10, so this is a massive improvement & it's not like this group won't have a shot at the top of the albums chart again in the future! In fact, I think their next studio album will reach #1, it was just unlucky timing on this occasion.

I'm sure the guys are very happy with this result, so it's a shame to see that some of the fans on this site aren't!

As for Taylor, fair enough if you don't want to support her music, but please be respectful of others' music tastes.

congrats to both and Folklore just barely missed selling 60,000 in its first two weeks on sale in the UK and missed platinum in the US by around 20.000 sales in its first two weeks and in Canada she missed by slightly over 4,000 copies for platinum 80,000 in its first 2 weeks of release

Feel sorry for the Fontaine’s DC. Taylor Swifts record company must have been desperate to claim a 2nd week!

Congrats to her, releasing the CDs early was a bit desperate, but at least it's a good album.

This is amazing!!! ❤️️

I'm incredibly pleased that the album which shows Taylor's best songwriting to date is also the first one of her career to spend multiple weeks at #1 in the UK.

Congratulations to her, as well as Fontaine's D.C. for their massive debut!
